Question about dog food.

Dunno if this is the right place to put this, but.....My aunt has dogs who shed TERRIBLY, so a friend of hers told her to put a tablespoon of olive oil in her dogs food to stop the shedding, and to help there coat. Well, she tried it and after a few weeks, her dogs werent shedding as much and there coats were all shinny. So we have been using the same thing. Does anyone else do this? Is it safe, or should we stop using it?

Olive oil is fine. I think the best oil to use is Salmon oil (actual oil or capsules).

She should also look at what brand of dog food he's using. Omega 3s are good for dogs in more than one way so supplementing the diet with oils containing omega 3s is good. I use fish oil caps.

It might also be the quality of the food. If she is feeding no name her dog will shed more then if she's feeding top quality food. Many high quality dog foods already have enough omega in them.

I agree with IBS and TAD, fish oil is best. However, olive oil will do no harm.

Any Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid should be added to the daily food for dogs. There is a product called Shed-Stop that is excellent.
