Need some advice
A family that I know has recently purchased a pomeranian puppy from a breeder in Oregon. This family has a habit of disposing of their animals after a couple of years with the excuse that "they don't have the time for it anymore". The dogs are cooped up in cages for most of the day and night wothout access to fresh water. They don't receive the proper attention or care that a dog needs. This happens at each new duty station they get assigned to - this is their fifth dog in 6 years. I have been searching all over the interent trying to find the breeder who sold them this puppy without success, so I'm here trying to find a way of getting that puppy out of that house and into a home that REALLY cares.
Any ideas? |

Do you know anyone in Security Police/Military Police? If the puppy is confined for most of the day without water - you may be able to get them to do something. Every base is different though.
Other then that, I doubt there is much you can do. Unfortuneatly, there is no law about treating your pets like appliances. |

Unfortunately, this family lives on the economy - they're renting a house, so calling the MPs or housing security wouldn't do any good. Realistically, most Coast Guard units don't have secure military housing if they have housing at all.
I guess I'm just hoping that someone will know the breeder in or around Coos Bay, OR that had a litter of pups on June 21st and will give me their email or contact info. I want to make them aware that this family isn't being truthful and will not care for this dog properly. |

It's highly likely they got the pup from someone who is disreputable. There are more bad breedrs than good, unfortunately. So I doubt the breeder would care.
A reputable breeder would have wanted a home check and would have given them the third degree before even thinking about giving them a pup. If you really fear for the dogs well being, you might have to deal with animal welfare, the humane society or the SPCA (what ever deals with that kind of thing around that area). Other than that I can't think of anything besides trying to give them advice or offering to pupsit the dog if you're close...and then when they get sick of it...take the pup in and find it a good home yourself. Thankyou for caring about it. So few people do. Cass. |

Thanks Cass. I wish I were close to them, but we're on opposite sides of the country and that's a good thing. Our friendship ended over something similar - a dog I rescued from mutual friends. I later found out through many different sources just what kind of horrible pet owners they are and it all made sense.

Coos Bay is about a 6 hour drive south of me.. I'll check local newspapers and see if I can find any information for you. And yeah, it would be a good idea to contact the local SPCA in Coos Bay - they may be able to help with this.
I, too, would like to thank you for caring. ![]() |
