Missie's jealousy with Darren- sheesh!

Last night I had my rat Darren out and was carrying him around on my shoulder in my bedroom. Normally Missie freaks out and runs around my feet barking, but she was surprisingly quiet. I thought nothing of it and went about my business. So I gave Darren to my sis to hold while I went to get ready for bed. I come back in, and my sis and I are cooing over Darren, giving him kisses and ooohing over his cuteness. Before that I'd looked at Missie and she was sitting next to the head of my sis' bed (where she sleeps for a bit at night before crawling into her chair/bed), and her head was way down low. I commented to my sis, "aww! She's falling asleep standing up!", and then we began fussing over Darren. So my sis stops mid-fuss and says, "look at your dog". I looked over at Missie, and she's sitting next to her chair across the room from us, literally SULKING! She had her head hanging way down, and then looked up at me with just her eyes, with a positively pathetic look! I swear she would've said, "you don't love me" if she spoke English right then... And then, as soon I put Darren back in his cage, she goes running over and looks at him, then starts behaving normally!

Talk about a guilt trip... And then when I tried to make it up to her and give her kisses and cuddles, she squirmed and tried to get down! Little punk!

I don't know if it's even possible for dogs to feel jealousy, but just based on Missie I'd say they do (or something very similar). lol She got so used to being a single child, she gets upset if I hold any other living thing now!

wow!! i know exactly what you're talking about. everyone here on global paw says its good for the dog not to be the center of attention all the time and i agree. but when its you and your dog and he/she is looking at you with that hurt look in their eyes..it kills!!

Yep I agree. It is really easy to sit here and tell everyone it is a good thing but the instant it is your pup look out. Guilt Trip City! LOL
