These days there is so much misconception about pit bulls, and I’m sick of hearing about it. There not the monsters society makes them up to be.
Today I was out in my front yard and one of my neighbors came out and said aw! when did you get the new puppy he's so cute so I told her and then her husband came out and we were talking about the dog and then he asked the question, what kind of dog is it... I replied it's a pit bull as soon as I said this they both said oh and walked away. Now if you do a goggle search on pit bull I guarantee that unless you go to a news web site (cnn abd msnbc etc.) you will find the articles are say that they are good family dogs, great with children, usually don’t bite unless their owners are in danger in fact from a list of dogs that bite the most often the pit bull was 4th from the bottom out of a few hundred dogs. People this breed really needs help it has such a bad rap. |

i know how you feel, and sorry that your breed gets such a bad rap! i would love to own a pit bull but the only thing is i can barely handle my puppy, and think that i would be to soft for this particular breed, they are beautiful creatures, and to say that they are killers is horrid... i love the pits...

Actually i agree with your title.
I agree. In Charlotte a few months ago they were trying to get a ban on pits. Not sure if they did. Ill have to find out. A house a bout a mile down the road from me has about 5 or 6 pits which they use for fighting. Everyone knows it but cant prove it. the dogs are tethered in the back yard and are never inside and you never see anyone with them. It makes me mad. Its people like that that help give the breed a bad rep. In fact, the other day at my store, a guy cam in asking if anyone wanted a pit bull puppy because he couldnt handle it anymore. Why'd he get it in the first place? |

i agree with you, the bad rap is making life miserable for this breed. my sister lives in a real upscale(snobby) nieborhood and she wanted to get a puppy for her son. they had a big fenced in yard and the timimg was perfect. so she went to a shelter and they fell in love with a dog and brought her home, well when they neighbors found out she was a pit they all banned against her, and her son"s(my nephew) friends mothers would not let their children visit him. she was the niceset dog and it broke their hearts but they couldn't keep her.
another quick story: when i was in my 20s i was babysitting a friends pit bull and i had a real jerky boyfriend at the time. he came to my apartment, mad about something and started yelling at me. the dog was on the couch right next to me and the bf was yelling in a real intimidating manner. That dog, who knew me all of about 2 days, lashed out at him when he started pointing his finger at my face. he didn't actually bite him but he snatched the watch right off his wrist. i can tell you, as a 103 lbs female( me..not the dog-haha) i never felt more protected! i have loved that brred ever since! |

I have spend days, weeks crying about the unjust way these dogs are treated because of the ignorence of people.
If you feel really strongly then I suggest you join one of the many groups that are fighting to have pit bulls saved. Although I dont own a pit bull I have gone into bat for them on more than one occasion. |

I think it is safe to say that the media makes pitties out to be mean and bad dogs. I believe the only mean dogs out there are ones with owners with don't treat them right!

i do think you guys are forgetting the importance genetics plays in all of this. while i agree that the way a dog is raised and trained is important, a dog's genetic makeup is also very important.
a pit bull can be raised in a horrific environment and suffer tremendous abuse and still be a sane stable dog, seemingly a lot moreso than many other breeds. on the flipside, a dog of poor breeding can be temperamentally unsound no matter how it's raised. yes it will have a better chance and probably do better if it is given all the best chances at being well-adjusted, but being raised well alone is no guarantee. part of the pit bull problem is that there are so many bad breeders breeding poorly-tempered dogs. |
