Your Dogs Names
So what did you name your dogs what you did? I just thought it would be a neat fun thread.
Captain- He was a serious and dominant puppy of his litter. He has always had a no nonsense way about him. Though with me he is as goofy as can be. Zebee- Really original reason. She is a blue brindle Borzoi so she has what is like zebra strips. Hence Zebee .Holiday- We brought him home between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And we wanted to give him a seasonal name. Most Pharaoh Hounds are given egyptian names but we wanted to be alittle different. Maddona- she is a cream/blonde Afghan and has always been our girly girl. Even since she was a puppy she has avoided puddles and mudd. She also hates going out in the rain or snow. She is our diva lmao. Fabio- we wanted to go with the theme with Maddona. Since Fabio is a masked red Afghan. I don't know it just fit. And to me lol he resembles Fabio a great deal LOL.Smiley- She is just honestly the happiest sweetest dog you could ever find. Never met an enemy and always has that happy dog smile on her face. Pepper- She is a domino patterned black and white Afghan. We really didn't get too original with her. Twix- He is a grizzle colored Saluki and so I thought he was the colors of a Twix Bar (Caramel and Chocolate). It also fits his dingy personality LOL. |

Harley - He was named after a pony that my sister rode on a trail ride way back when we were young.
Abby - It was the first name my sister and I came up with that my mum liked. She was so against 'Brittany', which is the name that my sister kept pushing for! (As in Brittany from Daria... I think that's how it's spelt?).Ringo (R.I.P.) - I named Ringo when I was 10. I went through a whole big Ringo Starr phase. Sadly Ringo is at rainbow bridge. |

Montana - Because she is a tan dog, get it Mon"tan"a, Jeff is my witty one.
Hank - Because it's a big boy name for a little chi, ironic but it fits his personality. Gregg, Jeff's brother named him. Mayce (RIP) - Came with her name, named after a Sacramento Basketball Star??? Don't really know which one. I just liked her name so I kept it. MeeToo (RIP) - She wanted to come where ever we went, she was extra attached to me. Cinder (RIP) - She was a black lab, like cinder. Cindy (RIP) - Don't know why. Rowdy (RIP) - He was pushy, powerful and out of control. |

Harrison-Oddly enough, he was named after the street his "breeder" was located on lol. His middle name is Hans because we got him a couple months after my dad died (He was actually born a week after he died), and my dad was Swedish so we gave him a swedish middle name.
Bradley-He was named after "Brad" from the Rocky Horror Picture show (And we had a dog named "Janet" who was killed in '04) Elliot-He was named after my brother's middle name Daggett-She was named after Daggett from the Angry Beavers, because she looks like him. lol Cartman-A south park obsession was during that time. His middle name is Justice because we got him right after 9/11 (The world trade center bombing) Charlotte-My favorite band at the time was Good Charlotte..and while thinking of names, I though Charlotte sounded cute. Peanut-His full name is actually "Prince Peanut"...I honestly have no idea what we were thinking of at the time. Jannah-Her full name is Jannahmel Grace. We got Jannah from our two other dachshunds that died the year we got her. They were named Janet and Hannah..and we combined the names. And my mom for some reason felt the need to add Mel grace (My first name is Melanie, and my middle name is Grace) onto her name. Reese-Full name is Rees-esitate. When she was two days old her mother, Jannah, sat on her and pretty much suffocated her. She was lifeless, and "dead"..but I attempted CPR anyway, and she started breathing..and rushed her to the E-Vet. Bob-When he was 6-7 weeks old he got Parvo, it was an absolutely horrible case. He spent 10 days in the E-vet getting vigorous treatment. He was skinny, he was dying..Everyday they asked us if we wanted to just euthanize him..but we didn't give up on him. At one point they asked us what name we were going to put on his files..and we had no clue, and the guy said "How about "Bob?"" and started laughing..and we knew he wasn't being serious..but he put it down anyway..and it stuck. His registered name though is "Just Bob IV" Bjorn-Full name is Bjorn Cujo bear stubbs. I named him myself thank you very much lol. Bjorn means "Bear" in Swedish, and I added on the Cujo part..and then another bear, but in english..and stubbs because he has a tiny stubb as a tail. Lucy-When we got Lucy was petrified of humans..and we couldn't touch her. We slowly worked with her, and everyday she would get better. And she would let us touch her, and pick her up..but then she kept getting BACK To the point where she acted like she didn't know us..SO my mom said it reminded her of "Lucy" in 50 first dates..so it stuck. ![]() |

For Darby, I wanted something Irishy without being too Irishy; and after a few days it clearly had to also be goofy sounding. Once I thought of Darby it just fit too perfectly. Dubshlan came from a website for gaelic names. Together the two names mean (roughly) "Dark, defiant, Proud". Hehe, makes me wonder sometimes if he grew into the name and if I should perhaps have chosen something more gentle & submissive.

When we adopted Cocoa six years ago, she was barely six weeks old. My daughters were almost 7 and almost 8 at the time. Cocoa is sable in coloring, but when you're 7 and 8 you don't know the coloring "sable", you just see brown. So they decided her name should be Cocoa. To me, a chocolate lab is cocoa colored.....not a sable colored shepherd mix. But that is what happens when you let little kids name the new pup.
We adopted Shorty when he was 13 years old and his owner had passed away. The family did not want to deal with the dog so they turned him in to the shelter. I was an employee of the shelter at the time and felt bad for him so I brought him home and changed his name from Goldie (yuck!) to something that sounded similar....Shorty. Goldie is a girls name!!! Anyway, I guess I didn't have to worry about it sounding similar as he was hard of hearing and ended up completely deaf within a year. But, that's how he got his name. |

Miss Fallon Dallon

Fallon - I named her this cause it was my favorite member of a band called Kittie. She had left the band so I named my dog after her.
Talena - again is a member of the band Kittie that had left after Fallon did. Lucky - I named him this after I found him, rushed him to the vet and realized he was Lucky I found him. I don't think anyone would have bothered to try and keep him alive in the shape he was in. |

Annabell(RIP) - Because I was 7 at the time I got her and I use to watch a TV show that had a poodle on it (like her) and her name was Annabell
![]() Kyrel - My mom was having a baby at the time I got Kyrel and we had baby books laying around and I found the name and just really liked it. Mudd - Because that is what she does best! Gets dirty. We can go somewhere that is dry and out of all the dogs she will be the one to come back gross and wet! Dont' know how she does it to this day. Lets just say if I ever get lost with her I will never have to worry about going thirsty! Kaede - How you pronounce the name (Kade) means fighter and because he was a pretty tough puppy (not to mention is an Akita) when wrestling it seemed fitting, and the way it is spelt in Japanese it means "Maple Leaf". We picked a Japanese word because once again he is an Akita. I know he has alot of meaning to his name, but to sum it up we call him our canadian fighter ![]() |

We named my sister's dog Zoe, because when we got her she was so lifeless and sad. In Greek, Zoe means life. I named my dog Bear because he had a history of abuse and was so shy I wanted to give him a strong name. And the puppy is Ailchu. Which is Irish for gentle hound. I was inspired by Ailchu's father, who was so gentle and sweet.

Buzz, I have NO idea, but it was either Buzz or Domino so his registered name became *shudder* Sir Buzz Domino.
I knew I wanted another B name (though I do NOT want to ever have dogs with similar names again) and thought Bailey was cute. And following Buzz's name she became *get the barf bag* Madam Bailey Angel because compared to him, she was an angelic puppy! |

I wish I had an interesting story for Dudley's name, but I don't, he had his name when we got him and he had already gone through lots of change (he was transported from a shelter in Alabama to one in NH, then home with us) I figured he should at least keep the name he was used to. And he kind of looks like a Dudley.

Wesley: When he was 3 months old, Wesley was rescued from a forest fire. The people who owned his mother had already been trying to find a home for him. When they met my sister, she asked to pet "the puppy" and really just fell in love with him. They saw that and asked if she'd like to keep him. Of course, she did and brought him home to us! My dad is a United Methodist pastor. Wesley is named after the founder of the United Methodist Church, John Wesley, who had himself been saved from a fire when he was a boy and was often called "the brand plucked from the burning".
![]() Lilly: When we got Lilly she was a tiny, scared little puppy. She has always been tiny, small-boned, skinny, and tall, and of course, VERY pretty and girl-ly looking. We liked the name Lilly, and she just looked like a Lilly! So, now I have my Tiger Lilly (although, she acts more like a tiger than a lilly) lol ![]() |
