Pacific Northwest Storm...
Heyyy!
Just got our phones back a few minutes ago so I thought I'd leave a brief message saying that we're doing alright, though we were about ready to hurt someone if we didn't get any communication to the outside world. The roads to any town with any form of communication (phones, internet, snail mail) were all blocked by trees, mudslides, sinkholes, etc., so we were pretty much stranded for 2-3 days until they re-opened the roads and restored power. Thankfully, we had a generator, which allowed us to watch TV, plug in the freezer, a microwave, and a portable stove burner thingy that enabled us to cook. If it had not been for my dad and I playing a ton of cribbage games, we may have gone bonkers.. :P Anyway, here's a couple photos. Lake Wal-Mart... ![]() ![]() Lake I-5... Yes... That's I-5... ![]() Hope everyone living in that area is okay and safe; it's about an hour north of where I live.. It's pretty devastating from the pictures, but it's even more-so in person. I never thought I would ever see someone kayak on a freeway... Take care - and glad to be back! ![]() |

As far as I know, the water has receeded a little, but they won't be able to open the freeway back up for another few days.. Which means if we need to go to seattle, we have to take a 300 mile detour. :S

So I'm guessing you're not at home?
I hope not many of your possessions are water-damaged. It was pelting down with rain here this morning, and the gutters were flooding like little rivers, and I thought that was cool, but your amount of rain is something else! |

I'm at home now - we didn't have to evacuate here as the rivers didn't rise much where I live. The place in the pictures above are an hour or so from here and the reason it flooded like that was because the dike broke... So it'll be a few more days still until we can get through to go to Seattle as the detour over the mountains to get there is a 300 mile detour... Eep...

I was watching that on TV last night and said a little prayer that no one would be injured or worse. That sure would screw up the holidays for sure. I hope things get back to normal so you can have a Christmas at home. Good luck and keep us updated.

Mazie, glad to hear your safe and dry.
Are those picts of Centralia/Chehalis area? My dad lives in Chehalis, way above the flood area but my Uncle is flooded. It's a real mess. That's the worse I've ever seen I-5, that's horrible. |

At least they're not swimming in it...
![]() In all honesty, though, I'm surprised that no one has started looting yet... With wal-mart submerged chest-high in water, you'd think some people would try to "salvage" what they could... Ah well - it's not a bad thing. ![]() |

This storm reminds me of the wonderful Clinton inaugural storm....remember that one? That was a wet and windy one. Heck people in Seattle were surfing off Alki.
Quote:
I'd be scared of looting in those towns, someone would shoot me, LOL. Lots of militia type people there not to mention the very religious, hard working, NRA members The only thing that struck me as odd with the "Lake Walmrt" picture was the lack of cars, I was looking for antennas since regular cars would be underwater...man that was deep! That store is sooooo busy, I'd figure more people would have gotten stranded there. Wow what a mess! Since the Centralia/Chehalis is such a depressed area, I wonder if businesses are going to make it. Sure Wal-mart will but not certain how small businesses will fair. I'm obviously in California so how is the water now? I see I-5 is still closed and there will be detours until the bridges have all been inspected. |
