Half a Tree, Anyone?

So I come home from work Wednesday evening to find that Boone, "The Destroyer", had been at work. I had a gorgeous full ficus tree in my living room and Boone had never paid much attention to it, so I assumed it was safe from his evil-doing. Nope. When I walked in the door, there were leaves and branches (whole branches!) and shreds of tree EVERYWHERE! And his little tail was just a-waggling like he was the happiest dog on earth. Like he was saying "look what I did today, Mommy!" LOL

So now the poor little plant is miserably ugly. I don't know what I'm going to do with it. It looks as if someone took a huge bite out of one side of it. And then there's these sad little nubbins of branches left right out of the soil.

Silly dog.

Dogs have all kinds of occupations. Yours just wants to be a tree pruner. He'll get better at it with more practice.

Now, you can get your clippers out and tidy it up. Just cut the messy, chewed brances at a 45 degree angle so that the open part is facing the way you want the branch to grow. It will fill out again. With the branches that are too far gone, cut close to the trunk so the tree doesn't waste energy on sending energy out into those branches. But tell Boone to wait till next season to prune again. LOL.

That poor Ficus. I have one of those trees. I decorate it for the seasons. Do just like Carrie said and it should be fine. When spring finally arrives put it outside so it gets plenty of light but not direct sun and it will flurish.
And Boone bad boy... No no

POOR TREE! It is pretty funny but still I feel sorry for the tree. I am sure it will be just fine until it needs another pruning!

Hmmm... I had a ficus, too.

Key word - had

My darling little Cragar would constantly rip leaves off the plant, chew them up, and spit them out in various places about the house. I was constantly finding ficus leaves everywhere! He was also very interested in the dirt. He'd stick his little snout right in the pot and chomp up a mouthful of dirt. One day I came home to him playing tug of war with one of the branches. I just don't get it - he leaves all of our other houseplants alone, but he seems to have bonded with the ficus.

The solution? Ditch your live plant and go get an artificial ficus tree!! LOL Worked like a charm for us. Crgar could care less about it!!

How funny. Getting a fake ficus is probably the solution. He seriously demolished the real one. Oh joy! LOL
