Dog's Favorite Burial Ground

I almost envy those of you who have dogs who bury things in the backyard. My guys are indoors except for a quick romp and to go potty. Otherwise, they wander around the house.

When I moved September to my new house, I found more treats (cow tails, beef marrow bones, bully sticks) buried in the most peculiar places. They were found between couch cushions, in artificial plants, and in the linen closet. I'm trying to minimize this in my new home but it may be hopeless. When retiring, we found a treat buried between our pillows!

Today, I saw Latte walking around looking for a place to bury a cows tail. I kept telling him to stay downstairs because I don't want to find any surprises in our bed.

Where does your dog like to bury his/her goodies?

That is quite funny actually! But I can understand from your perspective why you might not feel the same. Abby tries to burry her biscuit in my wool rug which is in my room. It would be impossible to bury anything in that rug, but she tries any way, and she thinks she does a good job at it! It's natural for a dog to want to bury their treats, and the thing is, if you haven't provided your dogs with a place where they can dig and bury, then they are going to find other ways around it (such as burying in the furniture and other odd places). Does your new place have a garden? Maybe you could set up a sand box outside, or something similar so they have somewhere to dig up, without ruining anything of value.

That is a bit funny. Kenya never buries bone. She just leaves the bones on the floor where I can step on them.

That is funny! I think River has given up trying to bury stuff - I usually hide things for him first when I go to work and he'll leave them there until he's ready to go get them himself!!!

River is funny! I'll have to do that to Latte -- he'd love the hide and seek game.

Wish mine would act more like a doggie. If they did, I wouldn't mind where they would try and bury anything. They are only interested in food and ocassionally chase each other. No balls, not toys, now chew items. I now have a 12 week old puppy, and guess what, she won't play with the little balls or toys I got her either. She only wants to chase after the other two dogs. What can I do to get them to play with toys or to chew the chew bones?

mine hide stuff in the bed too and in the sofa cushions and down in the recliner.
I don't mind, I find it rather endearing.

Although Niki will chew bones and she will leave them on the floor like kenya does -- especially when she has shaped them really sharp and I have no shoes on; it HURTS! she will not bury anything also.

Niki also sounds like your yorkies. She will not destroy toys because she will not play with them. I have to motivate her to play with the ball and when she does play, she wants me to chase her to try to get the ball from her -- silly puppy. But in general she is not interest in toys; she prefers to play directly with me.
