Angry This just totally infuriated me.

A website was brought to my attention today, and I cannot even say with words how it really made me feel. I guess angered, saddened and sickened would be a good start though. This place is advertising that they'll buy stray animals, to use them as test subjects. Basically saying, that it's much better for these animals to sacrifice their bodies/lives to benefit medical science to save human lives, than to sit in shelters unadopted or be euthanized. Well forgive me, but these animals do have a chance at adoption, and at least with them being PTS if it happens, it's a quick an painless process. They don't suffer along the way over long periods or have their bodies slowly shut down as people sit and watch them suffering, documenting what is happening to them.

Not sure how much good it'll do, but I'm going to be contacting them to $*^@# em out big time. I feel sick to my stomach after seeing it. I'd love to give these people a taste of their own medicine, see how willing they'd be to sacrifice their own bodies and even lives. Even better, see how they feel about having no say in the matter, and having somebody nominate them for the position.

Now I'm all for the advancement in medical discoveries, but I cannot condone this, and will not. I guess it could be worse though, at least they aren't using the animals (at least not openly admitting it) for test subjects for make-up or other such nonsense.

I was going to post the link to the site but thought better of it, wanting to make sure it is ok before I went ahead. Admin/mods please let me know if it is ok to do so or not. If not, no biggie, at least I was able to get this off of my chest.

Wow that is so sad! I recently watched a movie/documentery about "dog dealers" where people basically stole dogs out of back yards and sold them on the black market where they eventually ended up in testing labs. It was so sad I cried through the whole thing.

Wow, that sounds absolutely TERRIBLE!! I don't know what thought processes go through some people's minds sometimes. Where do they come up with these crazy and inhumane ideas? It just doesn't make sense.

OMG! That is awful, I've never heard of such a thing! The animals have a good chance of finding new homes while in the shelters, why just "take" their lives away like that?!

I watched the first 2 seconds of that HBO special, I have shivers, and pity for those poor creatures.
I think people should think alot more carefully before dumping their pet, and or breed.

Jeff and I watched the HBO special, it was very disturbing but I forced myself to watch the whole thing. I think my jaw was in permanent on-the-floor position. It amazed me that operations like that are allowed to exist and there is little control or enforcement for pharmaceutical and feed companies who experiment on animals.

When I worked for UC Davis Vet School, I understood the dogs and cats used in research there came from the Sacramento Shelter System not brokers. Also all the blood donor dogs for the teaching hospital were from the shelter too. I never saw the dogs so I cannot say how well they were taken are of.

I know the animals used in research at the teaching hospital and the vet school are all adoptable after the research project was over. I had a friend who adopted cats from HER research study and lined up homes for all the adoptable cats she could not take in. BUT this was a public academic research facility which is governed by much more strict laws and regulations than private companies such as Pet Food Companies, Pharma and Vaccine companies who use many dogs, cats, primates, horses and other animals in research.

I've heard horror stories about the pregnant horses used to produce estrogen replacement therapy for human women, does Premarin ring a bell anyone?

Thats disgraceful! I sure hope they get shut down and animal rescues get word of this. They will be put through the ringer once the rescues find out.

are you referring to **EDIT-Admin decided not to publish this site's name or address**? I saw it too and I couldn't beleive
the ads on the sides of the page for rescues and such, dog products and things like that, who the h*** do they think they are? The other
part that worries me is here in the town where I live there was
recently a new testing facility built. grrrr and the sad part is that
people will actually sell their dogs or rehome them not knowing
that person is from that outfit.

Edit.....I just found out this is a hoax and listed on snopes
so I am totally relieved!

I think it's a hoax too. It's anonymous, has lots of false information and has tons of ads.

Please do not refer people to this site, they are just selling ads and hoping we all spread the word, sending more traffic their way.

Even if these people are fake this stuff still happens. If you watch the movie I mentioned this is some peoples job. Athough instead of buying strays they sometimes steal them out of back yards.

This type of buying of shelter and unwanted dogs is actually quite big business. There are many corporations that actually do business in this way. It is unfortunate, but, then again, there are breeders that raise dogs solely for use in medical research. I guess, if you asked me which was worse, I'd be hard pressed to give you an answer.

I've heard and read stories about people stealing dogs out of people's backyards to use in medical research. That's so horrific!
