Carrying Out an Insane Last Request

I was watching Judge Judy during my Christmas break.

The case was about a man who was suing a rescue for not returning a Chi he surrendered to them to adopt out. After a long time, the dog had never been adopted so he wanted the dog back.

The lady who ran the rescue refused return the dog because he had a history of euthanizing dogs. The man admitted to having carried out the last wishes of a woman who died and euthanized nine (9) dogs and buried them with her in a pet cemetery.

The Chi had a severe but life-long skin disorder which made it unlikely for anyone to want to adopt him. She brought a vet to testify to this effect. The rescue lady decided to keep the dog in her sanctuary instead. However, the plaintiff contended that the poor dog was often caged in at the rescue and he wanted to provide the dog better living conditions.

Judge Judy was livid. She said that normally, she would agree to have the dog returned to someone in his situation. However, she could not sleep well turning over a dog to a man who was willing to carry out the insane last wishes of a dead woman by KILLING 9 dogs who were not ready to all die at the same time. She dismissed his case.

I'm so angered at the selfishness of some so-called dog lovers. If the woman loved her dogs, her last request would be to have all of her money and her dogs given to a rescue so that her dogs could comfortably live the remainder of their years. She would not want them all killed. Further, even if the woman was a little crazy and wanted that, a SANE person would contest it.

What are your thoughts?

Oh my gods, that's awful (about the 9 dogs). I agree that no one who loved their dogs would ever request that. I'm just stunned that anyone would want that.

And good on Judge Judy for dismissing the case.

Cass.

I am less quick to judge.

I once adopted a 2 year old Akita from a small shelter. He had had 7 owners before he came to live with me and his life had been a nightmare. He had been chained outside on a logging chain at one point and had been shot at.

The agreement when I adopted him was that if, for any reason, my circumstances were to change and I was no longer able to care for him, he would be euthanized.

He lived a long and happy life with me but had something happened to me, my family knew of the agreement that I had made and would have carried out my wishes.

LilacDragon,

I can totally see your point; however, I still think there could have been some people out there that would have given these dogs (separately) a good life.

I think that other arrangements are also available.

But all 9 dogs??
I see your point with one, although I disagree (especially for a dog so young)...that's just my opinion. But 9 dogs is over the top.

Cass.

I agree. She has always been fair in animal cases and is a dog-lover.

She lit into a dog owner didn't care that his dog got out of its yard and killed a child's pet chicken. The dog owner thought that giving the child $1.98 was enough compensation since that is how much it would cost to buy a chicken at the grocer.
