Visit from an Australian Friend

Heyyy!

Being that I just had a friend visit from Australia, I figured it'd be an opportune time to post about our adventurous week here.. I'll only post a couple pictures so far... but I will post more later!

So um... while I'm waiting for these pictures to upload, take a gander at this pic I shot yesterday while up in the West Hills of Portland.

Darn that cyclone fencing... Oh well - I'll photoshop it out of the picture later.

Also, take a look at this shot of Mt. Hood... I was amazed when I saw this pic and shocked that it actually came out...

Can you see the snow blowing all over the mountain?

Oooh, pictures are done uploading!

Okay... Friday, we went to Seattle and stayed over at my sister's place.. We left Saturday afternoon and went downtown to goof off - which was quite an adventure I didn't get lost; I just made a wrong turn and ended up in places I shouldn't have ended up... I found my way out, so... I took the scenic route!

Anyway, we went up into the space needle, which was really really neat!

Didn't get any pics inside, but I did get a nice view from the top of the needle

We then decided it was time to head south again - we stopped by my aunt & uncle's place to see if we could go down to the beach cabin for the weekend - we were able to, but didn't get a chance to go, unfortunately. But while I was at their house, I snapped a couple pics of their new pup, Babe!

Sunday, we left for Portland instead of going down to the cabin. Got a hotel near the airport, which was pretty convenient. Didn't do much that night - we discovered we had a mini-bar in the hotel room, so we opened it and had a couple... Then we went down to the bar in the hotel and had a couple more there... Two long island iced teas, a mudslide, and 3 rum & cokes later, it was time for bed! :P

The next day, we got up early and went to the zoo, which was a blast all around. Unfortunately, due to the sub-freezing temperatures, not many of the animals were outside, but we were able to see most of them inside.. Here's a few pics

I was even able to sneak in a self-portrait between exhibits!

After completing the zoo tour, we went downtown, which was pretty neat! Parked in a parking garage and walked everywhere. I didn't get any shots of the downtown area, unfortunately, except for this one I took out the window of the Chinese buffet we went to:

Coming back from downtown, we headed west on I-84 and managed to get this shot of Mt. Hood, which, I think, is by far the best picture I have ever seen of Mt. Hood...

Hope you enjoyed that lot of pictures! Ciao, for now!

Awesome pictures, Justin. No pictures of your Aussie friend and you though? I'm glad you two had fun.
Sooooo...you like Australian visitors, eh? Hmmmmm.....

Actually, we never did get a picture of the two of us.. But yeah, we had a blast

And I love the Aussie accent! So... Come on over!

Funny story... We got out to the parking garage and loaded his stuff into the trunk (he called it "the boot" ... silly aussie lingo...) I told him that he had the front seat.. so he immediately went over to the driver's side of my car and then caught himself... Then we got out onto the highway, and he was holding on for dear life because he thought for sure we were in the wrong lane... Kept telling me to move over.. LOL.. Poor guy. :P He got used to it in about an hour though and was fine the rest of the week, though he still wished he had a steering wheel or something to hold on to while he was sitting over there....so I offered him a pizza box and told him to pretend it was a steering wheel..

Ohhhh what great fun

It sounds like the two of you had loads of fun! The pictures turned out really well, thanks for sharing them with us. Ooh can I come and visit too? I don't know how you can stand Aussie accents though.. haha I love it how we all have different terms for things - like we call a "parking garage" a car park. Hey, I'm sure some of you in the US would call it a car park too...

Or the hood of the car is the "bonnet" (I had a Jaguar and the book on it was full of those new names.) Great pictures and yes, I totally agree about that picture of Mt. Hood. AWESOME!!!! Must have been your friends first time in the states. Too funny!!
Good thing you weren't taking him around LA or he would certainly have had heart failure. hehe! All in all it sounds like you had a great time, and your self portrait looks awfully familiar hehehe. I think I saw you lurking around the San Diego Zoo as well.

And hey, it is called the 'boot' (and the hood is the 'bonnet' as calgal said). We're not crazy, you are.

Cass.
