Dog dies in boarding kennel
I work at a law firm and one of my friends got in a new matter last week that she 'just had to tell me about' knowing I'm a major dog/animal lover. We are required not to disclose any information about our matters, but I'm going to explain this one simply without any names/locations.
A lady recently boarded her Border Collie at a kennel when she went away on holidays. When she went to collect her dog, she was informed by the kennel staff that her dog had died - it had apparently been mauled to death by two other dogs. What is sickening is that the staff did not discover her dog until a few days after it had died. Its body was left outside in the kennel run, with the two other dogs. The owner of the Border Collie specifically requested that her dog not be put out with other dogs, and she was told they would meet her request. Can you imagine how devastating something like this would be? I can't even begin to think how angry and upset the owner is! ![]() I am aware of the name of the kennel in question, but will not disclose it. Their website looks professional enough, and seems like a lovely place to board your dog, but for goodness sake, how could they not realise the dog was dead until days later? It's sickening and infuriating that they didn't supervise the dogs and make sure (if they were placed with others) that they were all compatible. They would have saved a lot of grief and heartache if they followed the requests of the dog owner. |

That is so sad! At the boarding kennel where I worked for a short time everyone had an index card pinned to their kennel saying if they got along with other dogs ect... This really helped out and if a dog was missing we would have definatly known it. I am just appauled by that story.

Geez, that's awful!
I can't believe anyone would be that irresponsible. I'm so sad for the owner and for the dog who died. Actually, I'm upset for the other two dogs too. That must have been terribley stressful for them aswell. I hope she gets some justice and, if not, some compensation. Cass. |

That is absolutely awful
![]() I hope this story eventually comes out so people will find out the name of this boarding kennel - to not know a dog had died for days is disgraceful ![]() |

I share the same thoughts as all of you...
Rivsky and Cass, the boarding kennel is not near either of you, just to keep you at ease a little. |

how devastating, and I hope the kennel gets put out of business, they just don't
deserve to hold a kennel license. How can two days go by before they discover the dog is dead, geez did they not feed and water the dog everyday? I know of another story where the kennel lost somebodies dog and it took alot of detective work to find the dog, about two weeks later and the person did not want to give it back until a "ransom" was paid. That is also an ongoing court case. I don't go anywhere I can't take my dogs, and if by chance I ever had to go into the hospital (god forbid) I have relatives to care for my two. |

That is shocking Swift, I'm so glad they are getting legal help. So many people do not take action, so I hope your firm is able to help out.
Poor dog, that is not a way to go. A dog fight/mauling was not fully investigated and a missing dog was over looked...that is beyond explanation, I agree AVA. It's difficult enough to trust your dog with someone else but to have your dog killed due to pure disrespect for dog behavior and their capability to kill, that is really sad. RIP poor Border Collie. |

How devastating that had to be for the owners and I do not blame them for sueing. I hope the people responsible get jail time and also never be allowed to own or work in another facility that has pets.

That is just terrifying and heart-breaking. My heart goes out to that owner.
![]() Makes me thankful that I don't board mine, and also have been pet-sitting for other's in their home so they don't have to board their babies either. |

We board Harley, so I was quite worried at first that it might be the place where we send him, but thankfully it's not. When we go away on holidays my sister and her fiance look after Abby, cause she's SO easy to look after, but Harley can be a nightmare at times, so we don't have much choice but to board him, as he needs someone experienced to look after him (at least he really enjoys going to the kennel).
