I think that it would be really hard to decide - I have not had many dogs in my life - I grew up with a boxer, then got a mixed breed; after I got married we got a miniature poodle and then an afghan hound and now we have eskies. They were all great dogs and I do not regret having any of them so making this type of decision would be very hard so can I say "all of the above"?

I have to pick just one!?! lol Gosh, out of all the dogs I've ever had I'm not sure I could pick just one, they all had certain things that made them great in my eyes and I'd feel like I was doing an injustice to the others if I picked one over the other. Out of them all I will name a few that have passed on for their outstanding qualities though. In no way is it a complete list though.....I'd have to name them all as they all have a special place in my heart.
![]() My Chow Ty-Son-Lee was excellent with my children; a true gentleman in every way, shape and form. He was the rock that stood as my girls were first learning to walk, they'd grab his hair and pull themselves up next to him and he'd take those first baby steps with them to keep them balanced and give them kisses when he couldn't catch them as they fell. Our protector; he'd walk the house every hour on the hour from window to window and door to door making sure all was as it should be before laying back down in front of our bedroom doors only to nap for a short time and then start his rounds again. And much, much more! Our bully Gabby; my alpha, my foundation,my love and my calm in the storm. What bad thing could I possibly say about this wonderful girl? Nothing, she was all that and more to us! As lady like and loving as they come. The heart and soul of our house and lives, this little girl was perfect in every way to us and always will be! My Saint Barney who stayed by my side while I spent over 8 months in a complete body cast as a child. A hulking male with the gentleness of a lamb, a more true childhood friend than I could have ever wished for and a huge influance on my love of animals. No, I can't pick just one and could go on and on about every animal I've ever had the pleasure of knowing that allowed me to share their lives with them meant and still mean the world to me. Can't think of one breed that has meant more to me than another....all have had certain things that I loved. ![]() |

It's hard for me to say. Currently I own dachshunds so of course they have to be my favorite breed right now.
My family is a big German Shorthair pointer fan. We have owned at least one since before my oldest brothers were born. I can't remember a time with out them. When I was about 10 we got a new shorthair pup that I got to name "Boss". I got to pick him out of the litter of 10 pups. He was all liver with a tiny patch of tick on his chest and toes. I remember my dad trying to get me to pick a different pup because being all liver was considered a fault. I threw a huge temper tantrum and we ended up bringing Boss home. He turned out to be the best bird dog my Dad ever owned and my dad practically worshipped Boss. LOL. He treated Boss like one of his children and spoiled him rotten. |

My shelties.. shelties are the perfect breed for me, but when this quesiton comes up, I always remember our Rottie Sheba, how she would play with us, how well she listened to my Dad (he was her owner.. he still talks about her) how fast she learned, if I ever get a chance to own another rottie, that poor dog will probably never live up to what I remember of my first Rottie.

Well seeing as I've only ever owned a Siberian Husky, deffinately them! But I've done a lot of research on a wide variety of breeds back when I was picking out which one would suit us best and nothing even came close to matching up with my lifestyle like a Sibe. The personality of a Sibe is a LOT like my own personality, it's the perfect match. I really can't see myself ever without at least one Sibe living with me.

Oh, I'm so glad most everyone is in the same prediciment as I with this. Lucky dog, you really made this thread a difficult one. LOL. I'm like Crossfire. There were so many good dogs in my past and present that it's really hard to say. I loved them all and I loved various particular traits of their breed.
I almost could say (but perhaps that's because this is now and fresh in my mind) that I am particularly wild about my Doberman. It's not that I love him more, but that I am loving this breed and it's traits along with Lyric's individual personality. He's extremely entertaining, full of character, highly intelligent and ready to learn. He's actually not as stubborn as my GSD was and Dobes are often thought of that way. I love his dependence and attachment to me. And at the same time, his ability to be an independent thinker. He's quite possibly the most affectionate dog I've had, save the Chihuahuas. All my dogs were very affectionate, but the Dobe and the Chi's are not as independent as the Lab and GSD were. These guys are similar in their velcroness. LOL. They are just sooooooo into their owner. But that is a good deal due to their breeding....the job they were bred to do. The Chi's are cute as can be and great lap dogs. The Doberman is not only a loyal, loving and willing partner, but he also makes me feel safe....such a good protector too. He just protected me the other day, 3rd time. Some strange men came walking up my long driveway (normally people don't walk up. They drive....kind of new for Lyric) and Lyric intercepted them, barking viciously, but standing back. When I went toward them to speak to them, Lyric went around, in front of me and stood all flexed just watching them. He had stopped growling/barking. He just stood there watching. Then after a moment of my speaking in a friendly way to them, he went and sniffed them, gave a half hearted wag of his tail and came back and sat next to me. These guys were interested in the property next to me which is for sale....Anyway, this dog thinks. He doesn't jump the gun....am lovin' this dog. LOL So, it's nearly impossible to choose favorites. |

Wow, this is a hard one. While growing up we always had GSD's. One of them saved my 6 year old rear-end from another dog who was going to attack.
Then we rescued a Aussie/Sheltie mix....she grew old with me. We got her when I was 10 and she died when I turned 21. She went everywhere and did everything. We thought it was great when she went to the park and went down the slide with us!! I worked Malinois during my 8 years in the military, and they really had great drive. I have had several dogs since then, so it's hard to choose. So I won't...LOL Every dog I've had, pure bred or not, has been great. I have to agree with Crossfire....it's so hard!! |

I've loved all the dogs I've had, and I've learned from all the dogs I've had. Shiner, my chow x, was a wonderful companion and protector, she and I had such a strong bond.. She wasn't perfect (what dog is?) to most people, but she was to me.
Ripley, my Papillon, is a handful, but I am learning so much about training in trying to work with him. I know that I'll be a much better trainer in the end if I can step out of my comfort zone and get through to him. Problems and all, I LOVE my cute little Rip. He's so unique, and he always makes me laugh. But, I have to say that my favorite out of them all is the Border Collie. I love their neverending energy, their willingness to learn, their drive and even their short attention spans. (OK I guess that comes with Dakota being a pup. ) Everything about them suits what I like in a dog. I hope to own other breeds in the future, namely at least one Doberman (Thanks to SizzleDog. Ilsa has completely won me over.) but I think I will always have a BC. ![]() |

Well, all of the dogs I've had were/are mutts, so I can't really say which breed I like, now can I? lol
But so far, my favorite breeds are the Neos, Pitties, and Boxers. (And the Lab. lol And the Rottie..... ) What I really like about the Neos is that they have all of the working dog traits, but they don't need as much exercise as a Doberman or a GSD would. But for right now, I'd have to say my favorite breed is the mutt. lol ![]() |

Ooo... I agree this is a hard one to answer.
I've owned two irish setters, an old english sheepdog and a chihuahua. Of all of them, although I adore my chihuahua, my favourite would have to be the Irish Setter. They are such beautiful and clownish dogs, they made me laugh and I really had fun with them. They were a handful, but still a pleasure to own and although they're not really in my top ten favourite breeds of dog...I would happily open my home to another one. Ritz... Neo's are my favourite breed also, although I've never owned one (YET! ). Cass. |
