Care Credit
Has anybody heard of this before? I heard its like a regular credit card, except only for vet stuff. Anybody have more information on this? I'm very curious about this. I an't find anything on the net about it.

I've used it for about 4yrs. Its just a credit card (with a high interest rate) that can be used at the vet. My vet accepts it and actually that is where I first heard of it and applied for it. The receptionist at the vet took all my info and I was approved over the phone within a few minutes.
I liked having it and used it many times...especially times when funds were low. My limit was only $500 and I always paid what I used as quickly as possible so the high interest did'nt bother me. I think a card like this comes in handy even if just saved for emergencies. You can find out if there are participating vets in your area that accept it right on their website. Here is the website: www.carecredit.com |

we accept it at my clinic. it's easier to get than "regular" credit, and they have a special offer with interest free payments for a certain number of months depending on the amount charged. it's saved a lot of lives.

I know my sister got one when her dog was really sick. They approved her for the amount of the vet visit and there was no interest for I think 3 months. It worked great for them and made it possible for their dog to get the treatment she needed. I have thought about looking into it but my credit is kinda messed up since my divorce. BUMMER for me!

care credit can set you up for trouble later if you're not careful. I looked into it a few years ago for some dental work for myself, not the dog because money was tight. It seems easy enought at first, they give you a break in the beginning to pay things off, but if you don't, they kick in a pretty good interest rate. I've had much better luck using a regular credit card with a low rate or setting up a payment plan rather than use credit. Clinics like it because high risk people can pretty easily get the card, and the clinic then gets paid, and its the credit card companies problem to try and collect, but care credit charges the providers a pretty healthy percentage as well as a fee just to offer care credit. Providers will push you too it, because if customers aren't utilizing it, offering care credit actually hurts them more than it helps.

I couldn't find on the site to search vets that take it? I'm probably just being blind.
Interest doesn't both me so much, I pay high interest on my credit card right now. I feel like its going to be YEARS to pay off such a low amount [compaired to others I know]. |

Instead of taking a math class this year, I took a consumer economic/ finance class, and learned a lot of junk about credit cards, taxes, exc. All I can say is no wonder everyone is in debt!
How much is it really costing you? |

Its in the "apply online" area: http://carecredit.com/patients/apply.htm You have to type in the name of a vet or vets office to find out if they accept it or you can call the 800 number listed at the bottom of that page to find participants in your area. |

The vet I currently go to, only one of the many vets there accepts it. And I don't like that vet [bad experience]. Buddy likes her though, but he loves everybody [except dark skined, dark haired, males, that are an authority type person].
