Eyes = Mirror to the soul

I'm back...
Hey all! I haven't been around much lately. Been so busy, as we just got the three girls spayed last week, and I have a new job. We also have been a bit stressed, concerning where we got them spayed.
We took them to an animal rescue (dont' want to post the name) that had the low cost spay/neuter. $30 per dog.... took them in and thought it was a great place. Well, when we went to pick them up, of course they were all excited. They told us no strenuous activity for 7-10 days, and that the stitches could be taken out in 2 weeks. We took them out, and wanted to take them to go potty and while we were out there, Sheiba had dried up dog poo on the side of her leg. My mom was like, take her back in and have them wipe it off. That's disgusting that they have her like that. So took her, she was wiped off, and we left. Well, Sheiba was in a LOT of discomfort. She was not sleeping, nor resting well at all. We then noticed that Sheiba had staples, instead of stitches, so we thought.. eh, probably pulled her stitches out, so they moved to the staples. Well we noticed later on that night, that Sheiba's incision was twice as big as the other 2. So the next day my mom called the shelter and asked if Sheiba's surgery was more extensive. Well it turns out... it was. The vet told my mom that they hit a "bleeder" and they had to go in, and try to stop the bleeding. That's the reason for her staples, bigger incision, and greater discomfort. My mom was infuriated! Why in the world wouldn't they tell us?! It still makes me mad to think about it... So Sheiba had pulled out the first 3 or 4 staples yesterday, and her cut wasn't open, and it wasn't bleeding, so we weren't extemely concerned, but wanted to have it checked out. So we made an appt. with our vet. My mom said Sheiba was TERRIFIED when she was in there. She said she was quivering and so so scared. Our vet was so surprised at how scared she was. Obviously... she wasn't treated very well at the rescue. So, our vet said their stitches could come out this Saturday (little over a week) and she gave Sheiba anti biotics and an anti-inflamatory because Sheiba's are quite irritated. She was surprised that the rescue didn't administer anti biotics of any anti-inflamatory meds for them. It makes me so sick to think of how they may have been treated. Sheiba had dried up feces on her leg, went through surgery to where she could have lost her life with the worst part being they didn't even tell us, and she's scared to death to even go to the vet where she LOVED going. I know this isn't for all places, but have had seconds thoughts for places with "low cost spay/neuter". If I ever have to have my dog spayed/neutered, I will only take it to my trusted vet, even if it costs me $500 or more. Like I said, I know not all places are like that, but it just broke my trust and ease when I found out that something went wrong during Sheiba's operation, and they didn't bother to tell us. But anyways... they're doing fine. Miss Lilly (has become her new name LOL) isn't fazed at all, and has become extemely attached to my mom. My mom takes her everywhere in the car, and we've decided she isn't going anywhere. For one... we've grown far too attached now, 2nd.. she still does NOT take to men well besides a few, she's a women's dog and 3rd, the place where she was going to go, they have another dog living in there (roommates) and we found out that the dog attacked their owners brother, so my mom was like "Uh, no way, she's not goin there". Her stitches are a little infected, as my mom said there are puss pockets. But she doesn't clean her stitches like the others do, so I have to clean them when she gets home. She's out riding with my mom right now... But, I hope you all are doing well, and Hello! to all the new members! Just thought I would let you all know why I wasn't around! |

Hey there! Glad to have you back and that the girls made it through their spay ok....no thanks obviously to the clinic that did it!
I'd be super ticked myself, just the thought of a vet having trouble during the spay and not telling me about it would be enough to send me over the deep end! Where do those people get off?!? Hopefully it won't be something that has tarnished Sheiba for good with her trips to her regular vet. Great to have you back with us....give the dogs a hug from me! ![]() |

It's good to have you back!!
Geez, they should've told you!!! They're your dogs! Tippy was spayed in September, but not by our vet...luckily everything went well with all of my girls' surgeries....I'd be so upset if something went wrong. |

Thanks all... Yeah, we weren't happy at all.
I'll have to get some pics up of them... well, Sheiba says only when her hair grows back on her tummy... she's too embarassed right now LOL Lilly is a big lug now... runnin' over our feet. OUCH! lol She's like a freight train, she just barrels through everyone and everything...I'm sure once we go there a few extra times, and she realizes that Dr. Teresa isn't going to hurt her, she should be okay. I will give them hugs for you Sonja! How's Ty doing? |

Awww Sarah I'm so sad you had to go through all this trouble with your babies!!! They certainly do not deserve it in any way shape or form!
I hope you have luck working with Sheiba to remind her that the vet's office is a happy place. I'm sure you know to do this already, but personally I take OC in to the vets at least 1-2 times a month. All we do is go in, he gets weighed (I keep close watch of his weight since he's a working dog, especially during the summer when activity level is down since it's so hot), then gets a treat for sitting still on the scale, and of course tons of hugs and pats from whoever's working and other owners. The vets is a very happy place for him to go to because suddenly it's only on rare occassions that he goes there and it's a little bit painful. Cheers! |

Thanks all... I think I'm going to take her in a little more often now, keep an eye on her weight and probably a good check up about every 3 months or so, because she has a sensitive digestive system. Was diagnosed last year with colitis and then earlier this year with Gastroenteritis. But she's doing great since she's been on the new food.
They all want to run so bad, but we wanna wait until they're all healed up. Lilly's stitches don't seem to be healing right, and they're still very very sensitive. I try to keep them clean... which brings me to another question to post! But anywho, Denali's stitches have been healing very well, Sheiba's look really good too, despite they're a little too red, but to tell you the truth, I think hers are healed up and the staples are irritating her. It's been about 7 days, so we let them have limited play time now. Once they're all healed up, my mom and I are going to take them to the beach to get aaaallllll their energy out! LOL Will take some pics today and post them!! |
