Oh my goodness, poor Lucy! I'm glad you finally found the right surgeon. I'm sure she'll be better in not time at all now.

Thanks everyone. I actually think she may be o.k. when this is all over. The doctor has definetly seen worse. I took Lucy for a walk with Bailey yesterday for the first time in over a month. She has spent so much time in her crate I can't bare to put her in there anymore. Poor pup needs to see the world and this has put a damper on her socializing. I'll let you guys know how things go on tuesday.

Carrie, I didn't know Jose had this problem. What did the Doc do and how long did it take for him to heal up? I am trying to get as much info on this as I can and hearing from someone who has gone through this would be so helpful on calming my frayed nerves.

Lucy's first surgery is tomorrow morning. No food after midnight and the whole deal going on tonight. It has been thunderstorming today and I couldn't get her out for a walk so she is going stir crazy. My husband is home (thank goodness) and he has been holding her all day. We have been going back and forth with the second thoughts on waiting to have the surgery. The fact that she is still young is the best thing going for her and that is why we have to do this tomorrow instead of waiting and praying it will all go away on its own. For me the hardest part is picturing her in a little cage, scared to death of the barking and whining dogs in there, missing her Mama and not knowing what is going on. It has actually been a blessing since I broke my arm two weeks ago. I can stay home with her while she heals since I can't work for another month. I had the option of returning to work and sitting behind a desk but I decided to stay home the whole time to be with Lucy and Bailey. This couldn't have happened at a better time.

Lucy will be in my thoughts too! I'm sure if the doc has that much love for the animals that he makes sure his workers do too, so Lucy will be in wonderful hands. Good luck to both of you.

I hate this part too. The waiting for the call that they are finished part. I gave them her pink blankie and little red dog to keep her company in the kennel. They said I might be able to take her home tonight or maybe tomorrow morning depending on how things go. Bailey is mopey and depressed. I took her out in the back yard to play ball and she wouldn't fetch it. She just watched the ball bounce and then came and sat on my feet and whined. We are going to pop in a movie and cuddle on the couch to wait for the call.

Aww, poor Bailey misses her little sister. Hopefully you'll get the call soon that all went well and she can come home tonight! Thinking of you all.

Lucy is out and recovering. I just got back from the vet. She is going to spend the night but I got to sit with her for a while. She is so sweet and was very happy to see me. She did great during the anesthesia and surgery. All of the people there love her and are very nice to her. This is a 24 hour emergency hospital so there will be someone with the animals over night. If there wasn't I would definetly have taken her home right away. I will pick her up at 9:00am tomorrow. She gave me the sweetest kisses when I held her and the surgeon sat on the floor with me while I held Lucy and told me how the surgery went. I have to take her back next week for a follow up visit and to have the stitches removed and then take her back once a month to see how things are going. She may not have to have the left shoulder operated on at all. He moved it around and got a good feel of it while Lucy was asleep and said it doesn't feel too bad.
Well, just thought I'd give everyone an update. I'm off to the park with Bailey before it gets too dark.

Just an update on Lucy. She is doing GREAT after her surgery. She still tries to run and play but she is on crate rest again for two weeks. I take her in the backyard 5 times a day to walk around and sniff and pee if she wants to. I can't let Bailey out there with her or they get too excited and rough house and run. I don't want to ruin this $1,300 surgery and have to make her do it again so I am being very careful with her. In two weeks we start water therapy. Her surgeon wants her to swim 2 times a day for a half hour. This will help build her shoulder muscles. My husband bought a HUGE kiddie pool and set it up on the deck. He even bought a solar pool heater because his baby can't have cold water! LOL When he filled it up to let Bailey swim around he added buckets of hot water to it until it felt like a huge warm bath! Bailey loved it and I hope Lucy likes it too. I bought her a life jacket like Bailey's so she can float around if she wants to. I wonder if I should not use a life jacket so she has to work harder since this isn't supposed to be leisure swimming but muscle building work. LOL I will probably switch back and forth. This pool is so big that my husband and I could get in with the dogs.
