Prayers for Lucy
I don't know how many of you know this but Lucy has been diagnosed with luxating shoulders and elbows. I have taken her to 4 different doctors and Tuesday, April 5th will be the 5th doctor to look at her. I knew something was different about the way she stands since the first week I brought her home. She has bowed legs and her elbows point away from her body. The first vet told me she has weak shoulder muscles and that she was just clumsy and would grow out of it. Months later she wasn't getting anymore graceful (LOL) and it definetly looked worse. Three weeks ago Lucy dislocated her shoulder when I took her harness off. I ran her to the vet who examined her and sent me to a specialist. This doctor took x-rays and sent me to another doctor to read them and diagnose her. I finally find out she has the luxating shoulders AND elbows. I was told to crate her for two weeks. In this two weeks time she has dislocated her right shoulder 2 more times. Both times were while in her crate after a nap. I have another appointment on Tuesday with a 5th doctor to look at her and tell us what is going to happen next. I don't know if it will be surgery or more crate rest. They told me not to feed her before I bring her in just in case. I am pulling my hair out not knowing what to do for her. All I can think of now are prayers.
Thanks Barrett |

yikes.
my only experience with luxating shoulders was a technician i used to work with's cat who had both shoulders dislocate. they did surgery and basically wired her shoulders to her ribcage to stabilize them. i haven't talked to her in ages so i don't know how the cat is doing now. my best to lucy!! |

That has to be extremely hard on the both of you! All you can really do is keep her as comfortable as possible untill she can have surgery. There just isn't any quick fix to this, but I would hope the Dr. would at least schedule her ASAP.

Hugs to Lucy and to you....I know how worried you've been about this and I really hope that this time you can get someone will to look strongly into surgery to help this little girl out.
I'm not a fan of surgery, especially on pups unless there is no way around it to ease the pain but short of drugging her 24 hours a day I can't see any other way. Maybe there is something else to help her but either way, no matter what you decide I know you'll make a decision based on what is best for her. |

Aww, poor little thing. That must be so painful for her when she dislocates her shoulders. Must be hard on you too to have to watch her suffer. I hope this dr. can help her this time. There has to be something they can do. She is such a little cutie. Keep us informed. (((((((((((((((((Lucy & Barrett)))))))))))))))))) |
