How exhausting! Just for routine shots!

Missie was due for all her annual immunizations, as well as her rabies vacc. this month, so she had an appointment for today. We got to the vet's, and, much to our chagrin, found the waiting room to be quite full. We waited an hour and a half in the lobby, and about the last half hour of that Missie got bored and whiney, so she whined and barked and generally made a ruckus. Then we were put in a private room and told the vet would be in in a couple minutes... Half an hour later we finally got seen. Missie actually almost went to sleep on the floor of the room, she was that worn out! I've seen her get bored at the vet's before... But never have we been there so long she nearly slept on the hard floor! I couldn't even hold her because I had a rat (who was also being seen) on my shoulder, and Missie likes taking little snaps at rodents.

Then she got her nose drops (bordetella), which she thoroughly did not enjoy! And 2 shots, Rabies and DHLPPC or something like that, I think. She flinched for the second shot, but I think she just got startled. She's always so good for shots! I was so proud. And then finally we came home, and she crashed on the bed after getting a drink of water.

Anyone else have some vet stories they want to share?

Oh yes, I have had a dog in for the OFA about 6 weeks ago.
Usually I pay the Vet the OFA fee and they send in payment with the X-rays.
I have gotten 2 Bills from the OFA so far, telling me I need or pay or they won't evaluate the x-rays.
The Lady at the Vet tells me a different story everytime I call. First she told me she had talked to them and they have confirment that they received payment, next time she tells me she the check has gotten lost in the mail.
I got so sick of it that I called the OFA and paid again with my CC.
And get this the Vet called the OFA and had them credit my card, because I already paid them and they will take care of it.
All this trouble over 35 Dollars, I am about ready to file a complaint with the BBB, needles to say I won't be going back there.

My current vet has never made me wait more than just a couple of minutes, thankfully.

Had all three pugs in for a checkup a couple weeks ago. I turned down vaccinations this time. Waiting for more of a gap. But all are nice and healthy. Woohoo

Our vet is open Saturday mornings so we go then, it's not too busy. Our appointments usually take 30 minutes or more because we have three dogs and a cat to be seen.

Almost every time we had to take my dog to the vet it has been an emergency and they always get us in right away. She was a sick little pup and we were going in every week for something or another. The last big visit was her getting Parvo after getting her vaccination for it. She is worth over 5 thousand bucks right now and just had her first birthday last week. Thankfully we haven't had to go for a visit in over 4 months (knock on wood)

Luckily, we never wait long for our appointments. And our vet is great about booking Jake and Peanut back-to-back when it's necessary for both of them to visit. Further, Jake hangs out in the same room while Peanut gets her treatment, and vice versa. They seem to have a calming effect on each other. And Peanut isn't so interested in other animals at the vet when she has her brother to hang out with.

Any vet who creates that kind of stressful situation for patients can't possibly care about anything more than his bottom line. You DON'T double and triple book animals and make them sit and wait like that without causing all kinds of stress and agitation. Shame on that vet!

I'd be looking for another vet!

I take my 3 boys in together.. vet walks in the room, and the first thing he does is plop down on the floor so he can get "Pugged" All the pugs take turns saying hi and giving him a lick.. one thing about that vet, he's good with them. He's not as "up" on pugs as I would like, but he's learning

Sounds like he makes it fun for them.

I disagree, respectfully. We've been going to this vet for years, and I trust her implicitly. I don't believe they double-booked at all, I think the problem is trying to do too much. They welcome walk-ins, and put them after people with appointments (which, as far as I know, means basically in between people with appointments- since someone who walks in before me, with an appointment at 11, wouldn't be made to wait all day or anything). The vet had just been on vacation, so she was trying to catch up on everything. She also likes to spend as much time as necessary with each patient (I've never felt rushed with her. She stops and thinks about nearly everything I say ). I think they were understaffed that day, for whatever reason too. They put animals in the private rooms as soon as possible, too, which is why we were in there an extra half hour.

I'm sorry I didn't explain all that the first time. From what I said it would be easy to assume that about the vet.

If we have to wait that long again though, we may be finding a new vet. It's just too much to sit in there all afternoon- and the vet can't do anything about it. They gave us times to come in that are less busy too, so we'll try that next time and see if it works.

We switched vets 2 or three years ago. She's great with the girls. They aren't usually required to go up on the table--she has blankets on the floor and she sits there with them, giving them her own home-made liver treats. Our dogs love her--she's really great.

Well, one thing about your vet, she must be popular! I personally wouldn't use my time that way....waiting for that long with all that chaos, but if you love your vet and it doesn't bother you or your dog....why not?

Yup... I never wait more than about 10 minutes for my vet. But it's not a very populated city where I go. He always comes out to visit with Lyric when I go just for a quick social call....been doing that with Lyric boy since I got him. So, he's pretty comfortable in there....loves the girls!

i always had to wait for my two vets of choice. they're both very very thorough, and they have a hard time sticking within their scheduled twenty minute blocks. but they're worth the wait.

Sometimes we do have to wait awhile, because she's usually very busy (she was rated one of the best vets here and has clients from different states--YIKES!), but she's good. The longest we've waited was probably half an hour to forty five minutes.
