Designer Breeds In B'ham

Okay so I'm looking through the dog section of the classifieds in the paper and here's what I see:

Chi-A-Dach (Chihuahua/Dachshund)
Maltese Mixes (with a website link selling ShihPoms, Dachshund/Malteses, Chihuahua/Malteses, and MalteTzus)
Pap-E-Tzus (Papillon/Shih-Tzu)
Papipoms (Papillon/Pomeranian)
Yorkie-Be (whatever that is

)
Yorkiepoo (yeah so that's becoming a normal thing to see, as well as a few others I feel I didn't need to put on here because they are so everyday)

Well I can say that the designer breed demand is starting to hit Birmingham in the worst kind of way. Oh well.

I use to love reading the pet column in the classifieds but it makes me so angry and sad now.

Yep. I have to agree. I don't see the benefit in any of these mixes, and they are going for hundreds of dollars. The website that was on there had several mixes (as shown in my first post), and a pair of breeding pugs for sell, and I hated to see that. It also didn't say if the breeder did any kind of health testing. So so sad.

And, OK, a Pap-E-Tzu??? Good lord. I think that is a photoshop mutation begging to happen. Those two breeds couldn't possibly clash more.

I think you answered your own question, for the DOGS there is no benefit. Greed and profit, sadly the motivation behind a vast majority of these so called breeders.

I don't know what's going on these days, when I was a boy anything crossed with anything was a mutt, NOT a designer breed and the people were happy if they found homes for them, payment for one was virtually unheard of.

I can imagine that If the father is the larger of the two breeds that the birth would be complicated if not fatal and caesarians are common place. I don't know this for sure, and am only guessing. Here in Europe the so called "trend" is just starting to take off. Sadly I feel, like most things here, some good some not so, we will follow in the steps of America.

Australia is following America with the designer dog fad too. They're becoming very popular here (although I guess it was our Labradoodles that started it, but no one bothered with them until the maltipoos and yorkipoos started to arrive in the pet shops). It doesn't help us that one of our biggest TV celebrities (who hosted the most popular lifestyle show for many many years) is behind the designer mutts 100%. *sigh* He promoted them (and a puppymill) on his show. So freaking sad. It disgusted me. It wasn't a one time thing, he did these things called 'road tests' which basically profile a particular breed of pet and he had a lot of the designer mutts road tested on his show with big promos for the bastards who bred them.

I'll bet he's a huge reason why they've gained popularity down here.

Yorky-Be is probably Yorky/Bichon.... We have em alot here too, puppy mills/puppy farms all the same thing to me... Half of em would cost alot more then an actual purebred.... Sad Sad Sad

The other thing I hate to see is free to good home, I hate that don't people know if they at least charge something that maybe more then likely the animal will be places into a good home.

OMG! wow.... yea i jsut read the classifeds just a sec ago, and actually, Fayetteville is gettin better.... actually i didnt see one mix for sale, only free mixes, and they werent designer breeds just ole Heinz 57... so igeuss you could say my town is getting better!!!

Right now I'm happy I'm not a fan of the toy breeds....so I don't have to put up with this crap as much. It tears me up enough seening the bad rap the Pitties and my other favorite breeds are getting.....if I liked Toy breeds too (not saying I dislike them, they just aren't my favorite) I think I'd have to stop liking dogs......(just kidding!) But man.....all of this yorkiepoo and Puggle crap is about ready to drive me insane!!! (And really, if they are going to persist in breeding these mixes, why in the world can they not think up better names?!?!

Those have GOT to be the worst names for a 'breed' I've ever heard in my life.)

As I stated on the Crossbreed Debate thread, I think all puppies need good homes regardless, but this is just crazy. I could say a few more things, but I will hold them back.......

Yeah, La Schnoodle was probably the idiot who bred them's idea of a better 'oodle' name. Perhaps more dignified for her large designer mutts.

*sigh* At that link, if you click on the years at the left hand side, then select 'road tests' you'll see all the designer mutts he profiled (alongside purebreeds) each year.
This is the puppy mill that Don Burke (the tv host I mentioned) supports it's called ACA pups and they have their "breeders kennel" here.

The thing that i find ironic is that a lot of "breeders" of these mixes use the marketing scam of "Own your own original mix" and go on and on about how no one else has a "cute lil dog like this", but the thing is, they've grown in so much popularity, EVERYONE has one now, so where's the originality of having one anymore? And yet people keep buying
