Duke has DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy) and a heart arrhythmia, which is basically the worst possibility. Without meds he has weeks, with meds he has months, but the meds don't start until they wean him off the oxygen. Even with or without the meds, he could literally die at any time. He'd be on four different medications, whose names I don't even remember at this point. He stayed overnight at the clinic last night, and will be there again tonight, and if I'm lucky he *might* come home tomorrow. I'm trying to be optimistic, but my hope is dwindling at this point.

OMG, this is the worst. I am terribly sorry to hear this Red hot. My thoughts and prayers are with you, that you will be able to be strong as possible through this ordeal and that when the time comes you'll be able to bear it. We'll be here for you. All you can do now is love him with all you've got for his time left.

I know this is one of the major worries we Dobe people carry around with us the whole time we have these wonderful dogs. It was almost a factor which may have kept me from getting a Dobe, so common it is. But others with Dobes said that the time we have with them is still so worthwhile and that our love for them and their incredible devotion to us is unmatched by so many breeds, that it would be a bigger loss to not have had them in our lives at all. I do wish your heart to be full of enrichment from knowing your Duke boy and to be able to go through this with somewhat of a brave heart. My heart goes out to you and I'd hug you big time if I could. We're here.

I know how overwhelmed you must be with all this info on Duke being thrown at you all at once and how difficult this is and will be on you....if there is anything I can do please don't hesitate to ask and I hope that Duke is able to come home to spend his time with you.

Thank you all so much. Right now I'm trying to take it a day at a time, and not look ahead because I just can't deal with it. It's all so sudden, he was here one day, and the next he's gasping for breath in an emergency clinic. I just want to get him off the oxygen, on the meds, and home again. He's so tough, had it not been for the coughing I may have never known anything was wrong. Hopefully he'll be home soon, but tears gush every time I think of him not being here.
