neutering a cat
So I am a bartender at a private club and one of my customers (he is an 80 yr old man who is VERY set in his ways) has a male cat that is about 3 years old. Well he has never brought this cat to the vet and from the stories he has told he is semi feral and sleeps in the house all day and goes outside all night. Everytime he starts talking about his cat I try to talk him into bringing the cat into a vet for his shots or at least get him some flea treatment if he is going to be an outdoor cat. Well the other day I learned he is not fixed (I was hoping a previous owner had done this as he got the cat at about a year old) Well of course I started right in on him about all the kittens in shelters because of owners like him, ect. He is one of those old timers who think a cat is just an animal, and doesn't need to go to the vet, and he actually found it funny that his cat was impregnating all the females in the nieborhood. But anyway I gave him a number to call to get his cat fixed and it would only cost him $25 (he lives on a fixed income), and I told him I would let him borrow my cat carrier to bring him in, heck I even offered to bring the cat to the vet myself. But my question is, would a vet do the operation if this cat has had no shots, and is most likely covered in fleas?

Yes. But only after fixing the flea problem. I don't think the vaccination thing is a problem...unless not having a rabies shot is something to worry about? I know nothing about rabies, we don't have that here in Australia.

If it has fleas it will be treated for them when it comes in and it will be added onto the bill. If it isn't vaccinated, I don't think they care. Rush wasn't vacc after he was around six or so and the vets never said anything when we kept bringing him in for treatment.

Well, I think the vet would definately treat the flea issue, which would probably be added to the bill. Where I live, a vet will not fix a cat until it's given at least a rabies vacc. I'm guessing that the rules are shots are probably different pretty much everywhere, so the best way to find out would be to just call the vet and ask some basic questions. Best of luck, I hope everything works out!
