Does anyone elses dog/s fear....
Fireworks or thunderstorms? Gracie and Gabby are terrified of thunder they both follow me around the house when it thunders. Gabby whines and has to be touching my body with her's 24/7 even when we are walking around and Gracie hides under my legs and shakes. Gracie is also scared during fireworks she is even more terrified of them than she is storms. Does Gabby's fear of thunderstorms mean she will also be scared of fireworks or can a dog be scared of one and not the other?

Abby isn't scared of either fireworks or thunderstorms (she's a pretty brave girl!
). Harley is scared of thunderstorms and will run upstairs to my room and hide under my bed for the entire night. He gets very fidgety and won't stay still. We don't really get fireworks around here, because they're pretty much illegal in Australia.. but we have a local football club and they have fireworks every other weekend. The noise doesn't seem to disturb Harley. |

Rose is fearful of both fireworks and thunderstorms (as well as gunshots), and Chloe is too, to an extent.
When Rose hears tunder she will start panting and getting really nervous. If we're outside with her she'll follow us around like a little lost puppy and become glued to your legs. If she has the oppurtunity, she'll go into the garage or try to come inside. If that fails, she goes to her doghouse. She is the same with fireworks and gunshots, although to a lesser degree (doesn't get as nervous and doesn't try as hard to get in the house). Chloe is so-so around really loud storms (she doesn't hide or shake or anything, but her eyes get big). She also doesn't really mind fireworks in the distance, but if they are close (we're shooting them off) she hides. Or, at least, she did last year. |

Miss Fallon Dallon

Fallon hates thunder and fireworks. My other two could care less. Fallon will follow me around or hide under the bed, that's her den area.
My moms chi's are scared too. They hide in her bed covers, but they have been getting a bit better about thunder. |

Sheiba is afraid of thunderstorms. Not so much fireworks, but her fear of thunderstorms has really only gotten worse in the last year. So I guess this 4th of July we will find out!
Sheiba gets to the point where I have to give her dramamine or benadryl to calm her down. She pants like crazy, her eyes get very wide, and she paces all over the place. She particularly is unsettled if someone is walking around. But like I said, she has just recently started to become more and more aggitated when there are storms around, and we've been having our fair share of storms lately. |

My one cat tags is the same way. She stays hunkered down like she's trying to be unseen! Most of the time she picks a "safe spot" and will stay huddled up in a ball in that one spot. Usually that's right by the couch. Poor kitty, she has been that way ever since one storm in particular. Lightning had struck VERY close, so it was just a loud crack. Ever since then she has been scared to death of thunderstorms. We won't hear the thunder just yet, but when we see her acting this way, we know it's coming.

Most of my babies don't mind thunderstorms or fireworks too much, but my dog Girl is terrified of both. She'll whimper, and try to hide under something.... usually the table or the blankets on the bed lol. I think Gordo is also somewhat scared of thunderstorms, but after it's been thundering a while, he pretty much just stops paying attention to it period.

We have fireworks near our place for 2 weeks each year when the Royal Show is on. So every night for 2 weeks we have a little dog barking at them!! He's fine if we go outside and he sees there's nothing going on directly around the house though so I don't think it's fear, more just having no idea where the noise is coming from.
Thunder he pretty much ignores but again if it's really loud he'll bark and that's it. |

Ozzy 'n Jagger Rock!
|
I was pleansantly surprised last night by my dogs. Ozzy had no problems being out with us last year when the neighbors were shooting off fireworks but this would be Jagger's first experience with them and he tends to be timid.
We took the dogs out in the backyard last night & started playing games (while having plenty of treats on hand). Ozzy was a little unsure at first & Jagger was definitely unsettled. So, we turned to some training sessions & they both quickly forgot about them. We worked on some very basic things like heeling, finishes, recalls with lots of silly games mixed in. Then, we moved to the deck & just sat out there watching for about an hour. Neither dog is affected by thunderstorms. |

I was actually pretty surprised the other night.... I brought little Jager to the fireworks with me, because I hardly ever leave him at home. I also thought it would be good for him to socialize with so many people. Anyways, he actually seemed to enjoy watching the fireworks. He stared at them so intently, but he wasn't scared at all.

Zoe's Mama
|
Zoe is scared of thunder, but moreso of fireworks. We just had some go off around here last week because of Canada Day. She was trembling, following me everywhere, panting. If I sat down, she'd jump into my lap. My sis's dog Bear was worse. Even when I was standing, he'd jump up onto me. When I sat down, it was like he was trying to crawl inside of me!
