My Lucky #7

I'm back!!!! ![]() A TON of stuff has happened and I thought of everyone here at GP every time something happened. ![]() #1 Happening- Welcome Miyako (or Mia), my new pup! I waited, and it payed off! We went to the shelter just to browse and Mia was just.. she just stole my heart. She was in a small pen with a very hyper sister, getting stepped on and shoved around, just like A.j. and I both had (youngest sibling thing or something). So we adopted her. Her name at the time was Aurora, but I find that a difficult name for a dog; not easy enough to say. So, the shelter informing me that she was born on March 6th, I named her Miyako- it means "beautiful March child" in Japanese. The shelter told us she was half Border Collie, half Shepherd. But, like always (typical me), I'm starting to wonder... Sometimes she really looks like a Belgian Sheepdog, but of course that could just come from her Shepherd side. But many people who have seen Mia; at least 5 different people asked if she was part Akita. I don't know much about Akita's, but I know it would be awesome if she was part of a breed like that. My grandpa said she looks Husky, too, but he's pretty stuck on Huskies since he had one when he was a kid. xD Mia completes the Mirg and A.j. team (now the Mirg, A.j., and Mia team, though). She gets along good with me because she's quick to a word (same as A.j.) and never challenges my stubbornness. She gets along great with A.j., like his second half- while he's hyper and wanting to be in everything I do, Mia is calm and just sits in the background watching. Complete opposites, even in color; yet already the best of buddies. Where ever one goes, you can be sure the other one follows. Its like when light and dark come together. In pictures it looks like that if I give it strong contrast because A.j.'s light fur shines while Mia's dark fur is like a blob of black. Anyway, we adopted Mia when she was one day away from being 4 months; now she's almost 5 months. So Ive almost had her a month. My sister insisted on paying the adoption fee, saying this would be an early birthday present. At that topic; My "sweet sixteen" is in 11 days! I'm really excited. My parents also got me an early present; donating some money to my saving up for a computer- and with that extra money, I finally had enough and now... I have my own laptop. The second reason I'm finally back to GP (the first reason being cause I missed GP). #2 Happening - I now have a true, extremely good job. I work for a very successful and caring OES breeder- SnowDowne Kennels (SnowDowne Home). The owner, Dea, is nearly the most awesome person Ive ever met, and I consider her one of my best friends. Kinda odd since she' my boss, lol, but oh well. So far she's basically just teaching me about OES and showing the dogs (all the dogs have to have an AKC championship and all their health tests done before they and considered for breeding)- mostly washing dogs, trimming coats, and teaching pups to walk nicely on leads and to stay on the grooming table, but Dea says in the future she would love for me to go to shows with her and learn to be a dog handler. She cant handle her own dogs in show because she has a bad ankle. #3 Happening (not so good) - My darling, handsome ratties passed away quite some time ago. I'm not sure how, they didn't look unhealthy in the least bit. Ozzy passed first, then a couple of months later Stinky followed. I feel horrible because I should have gotten a buddy for Stinky after Ozzy died, but I guess there's nothing I can do about that now.Besides Mia, I have 3 new pets; mice. Its a really odd story, though. I had bought 3 female mice; a black and white one with markings much like A.j.'s named Duckie, a gold and white fuzzy one named Ritz, and a silver one with a tan belly named Bassie. Bassie ended up being my sister's mouse. A couple weeks later realized the pet shop had kept the males and females together (I think the mice I chose from were feeder mice). Bassie was as huge as a golf ball. I researched about mice pregnancies and whatnot, but was too late. Bassie had the babies just half a day after I realized how fat she was, but she had a miscarriage. The 'babies' were basically just globs of skin, no bone or anything. But you could see their little feet so it was really sad. After her miscarriage, Bassie turned into a crazy mouse, attacking the other two mice (although I think the other two pick on her), so I got an extra tank and took Bassie in her own tank downstairs so my sister could just care for her own mouse. But now everyone's happy, at least. Bassie looked unhealthy for a while, but she has plumped up to healthy weight again and is playing like normal again. Sophie and Wiener are.. well, they're basically the same as ever. Sophie learned one new trick, paws up; but nothing else has really happened. Wiener is still a little aggressive, but I've been working with him and he's getting a ton better. No one has been bit for at least 6 months now. Mia, after only a month at home, is house trained, walks perfectly on a leash, and already knows Come, Sit, Speak, Paw, and almost Down. Definitely some smart breeds in there. ![]() And she has the oddest bark; if you can even call it a bark. Its almost like a yodel, but kind of a whiny, quick chunks of yips. I have a video of her doing it, I'll put it at the bottom with the pics. So. I think I've pretty much covered everything. At least everything pet-related that has happened. I could type all night, but it's already 3 in the morning, so I better cut it off here. I'm sooo happy to be back, though! Hopefully not many people had to leave. Here's pictures of Mia- First day home (her ears were still so floppy ) :![]() ![]() ![]() (above) You can see how skinny she was when we brought her home. She had absolutely no muscle, either. Although I love the shelter we got her from, I don't think they were taking care of her right. Judging by her sister's shovey personality, I think they should have separated the pups while they ate. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (above) One of Mia's often-used expressions is the puppy-eyed head tilt that some pups give. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (above) Of course A.j. had to run and get a toy out. He's quite the outgoing dog. ![]() (above) This was only an hour or two after we got home with Mia, and they were already trying to play. ![]() (above) A.j. getting slapped in the face with a toy duck. (Not really; he was shaking it while running.)![]() (To be continued...) |

(Continued Pics and Videos) Mia's second day home, after her first bath from me (now that Im nearly a dog bathing pro, washing so many OES, lol) : ![]() ![]() (above) After-bath hyperness. ![]() (above) I love her thin, long muzzle. ![]() (above) A.j. being the handsome man he is. ![]() ![]() (above) A weird but cool picture I got when A.j. came to slobber on me when I was laying in the grass. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mia has grown so much since these pictures. She's at least twice that size, now. (Ill post some more current pics, too) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (above) I have no idea what's happening in this pic. Its like the Almighty Mia Tongue of Power or something; shoving A.j. away like that. ![]() ![]() Yep, A.j.'s still the same camera hog he ever was. ![]() ![]() ![]() (above) Chewing on a tree root coming from the hole Simetra dug while she lived with us. (Sim is still doing great at her owner's house, by the way.) ![]() (above) A.j. wondering why in the world a puppy would want to chew on a root instead of one of his awesome doggy toys. (To be continued agian...) |

(Continued yet agian..) These were taken just the other day: ![]() ![]() (above) A.j. with another duck doll; his new one. ![]() (above) My handsome man. ![]() ![]() (above) Mia barking et me, lol. ![]() (above) Her ears look a lot more shepherd-ish now, but she never perks them up for pictures. ![]() (above) The furthest I could get her to perk her ears. At that angle they still look really floppy, but if she's alert or just keeping them up, they stand straight up now, except her left ear folds a little at the end. She was truthfully getting a little scared because I was doing odd stuff to try to get her to perk her ears. ![]() ![]() (above) She has the oddest body type. Despite how it looks, she isnt underweight. She is a little chubbier now, but her body is just really thin and stringy looking. Almost makes me wonderif she's part Greyhound or something. Makes her head and neck look huge cause she has a lot of scruff, lol.![]() ![]() ![]() (above) She kind of has the Sophie expression in this pic. ![]() (above) "Time to play?" ![]() (above) A more relaxed veiw of her body. She looks underweight in this pic, too. o.o And some videos: Me getting Mia to "bark"/"yodel" at me. I dont know for sure what to call it. But I have my friend's camera because she forgot it here, and it has video with sound, so I'll take some more videos before I give it back. A video I made to welcome Mia into the family. M'kay, thats all for now. I just realized I didnt give much updates on A.j., but I'll have to do that tomarrow. Its already 4 in the morning and I didnt get one wink of sleep, yet. Doesnt help that I took some medicine for a headache I had earlier.Goodnight/Goodmorning, everyone! ![]() |

Hey Mirg, welcome back to GP! I missed you and your gang!!
![]() Oooh Mia is sooo cute, I just wanna cuddle her! It sounds like everything is going well and your new job sounds so fun and fantastic, I'm so happy for you.I am really sorry to hear about your rats, though. I used to own a number of mice for a few years but couldn't handle them not living for very long. I think my oldest mouse was 3 or 4 years old. I don't know how he lived so long. |

Welcome back!
Looks like you are doing well, as well as A.J.! Congrats on your new addition - she is adorable! I love the little howly thing she has going on! LOL I personally agree with the shelter and thinks she looks like a Collie/Shepherd mix for her predominant breeds. She may have some chow/husky/akita/spitz type breed in there somewhere (more for the coloring than anything). Chloe, my Collie mix, as also always been a bit on the "stringy" side, so maybe it is just the Collie in her causing her to be thin. Shepereds are also very thin when they are younger...much like Boxers. |
