After much discussion...
After much discussion, and much given time.. Lilly just really isn't working out in our "pack". She was so deprived of love and attention that she just wants it ALL THE TIME. If we call the others over, she literally shoves them out of the way, and will lay on your hand. At times, Denali gets frustrated with this, and sometimes a fight breaks out. Denali has also been very very depressed, and stays in her cage all day. Lilly just needs to be an only dog, or with a small dog. And luckily, we have found the perfect home for her.
After placing an ad on Petfinder, a lady contacted us telling that she just lost her female rottie to old age. She has a mellow jack russel, and is looking for another female rottie. She was recommended by a rescue (for rotts and dobes) and has a trainer whom would recommend her also. She's single, getting ready to move to Northern Florida, and travels a lot. Lilly LOVES women, and gets along GREAT with smaller dogs seeing that she was raised with one, and she LOVES to ride. She is an absolute wonderful rider. This is really really hard for us, as we are very very attached, but feel it would be best for her to get the special attention she desperately desires. We also want to see our Denali the happy and spunky girl that she once was. We have told the lady though, that if she doesn't work out.. we will take her back. We also would like to have some type of notification stating that she agrees to do so. Do any of you know how I could go about typing something up? She's leaving for her home on Monday, as long as her and the JR work out. She wanted me to tell you all good bye, and that she's enjoyed hearing your stories. Thanks for listening... and just thought you should all know. I will let you know how things go on Monday. Wish her the best of luck... |

Oh gosh, you have worked so hard with Lilly, and it's good you are selfless enough to help her even more, in this way. It will be hard letting her go, I'm sure. This lady sounds like a winner. I hope Lilly doesn't bully the JR too much, though. I'm hoping it all works out for you two! Good luck! Tell Lilly I said goodbye, and to be a good girl.

That must be so hard!! Give Lilly a big huge hug and a treat from me, and tell her to be a very good little lady.

Oh, Icey. I know how hard you've tried. It does sound like this lady is a winner though. I think she'll have a happy life and that's the main thing and your dog will be better off too, it sounds like. These Rotties and Dobes can be very demanding for attention at the best of times and one who was deprived....well, I can see how that could become a problem. I know you'll miss her.
As far as a contract, I'd call an attourney and just ask if you write up something to the effect of what you want (you can summarize it to him) if that's all you need or do you need it notarized or anything. I suspect all you need is something you both sign and keep copies. You could just write that she agrees to return the dog to you in the event that she decides not to keep her OR if the dog is determined to not be taken care of properly, which would be determined by a vet. Or you could leave that part off if you're comfortable with her referrences. You wouldn't want to insult her. Anyhow, you could write whatever you want to and ask her to sign, make a copy and even have the signatures witnessed at the time of signing. Be sure to date anything you sign. You could start it off: This is an agreement bewteen (name) and (your name)...as a heading. It is agreed between the said parties that in the event that so and so decides for any reason not to keep Lily, a (her age) Rottweiler, that she will be returned to (your name) as first right of refusal. (That way it re-emphasises that giving it to someone else does not replace or substitute giving her to you.) I hope all will go well. I'm thinking of you and how hard this is but at the same time, I know you'll feel better about it after a while. She'll be fine. |

That's so sad.
But I'm glad things will be working out better for all dogs involved. I'm sure Lilly will be really happy in her new home. Hey, can you convince her new owner to join GP? LOL Maybe she could keep us updated on Lilly?Cass. |

I'm sorry Lilly didn't work out, but at least she'll have a good home! I know it will be hard, but we are all here for you! You are doing a wonderful thing for all of your dogs.

Thank you all for the kind words. I know it's best for her. She's such a sweet dog, and we just want to see her get the attention she needs. I think she's just better off being an only dog, she was just too deprived.
Carrie, thanks for starting that off. A friend of ours is going along, as he used to work in her same town a while back, so he can navigate the way. So we could use him as a witness. I don't think we should have any problems though... unless she just really doesn't get a long with her JR. Something that my mom told me, that I didn't know before, is the lady Gena either HAS or, WILL HAVE (once she moves) about 4 acres for Lilly to run on. She's going to love that, as Lilly loves to run around and be a crazy puppy! That's a good idea to see if she would join Global Paw! I might just mention it to her, and let her know that a lot of people would love to keep in touch with Lilly, and hear about how she's doing. But if anything, I will be sure to keep you all updated with anything we hear. She's getting a nice bath and combing tomorrow. I'll get some final pictures of her with her buddies. Going to miss her wiggly butt! |
