How do your dogs communicate with you?
Just was thinking about this earlier. How do your dogs communicate with you... such as letting you know they need/want something, etc.
Sheiba will bark and jump on you if she needs to go out, is hungry, or wants you to wake up. They say huskies aren't barkers, which is true, but she does this only when she wants something. She used to steal my mom's blanket in the morning when she would want her to get up... hehe Denali will sometimes go "wooooooo" in a really deep voice. And she paces a lot and will stop and look at you, get in your lap, get down, get back up again. LOL Or she just becomes very bratty to the others... so when she starts acting goofy, we know she wants something. Sargent grunts... he will sit in the door way, or the hall way, and just grunt grunt grunt. I talk back with him and grunt to him. We go back and forth grunting, to the point where I think he's telling me to shut up, cause he runs over to me and makes me scratch his butt. LOL He also knocks on doors. If he wants in from outside, we hear *knock knock* and if we don't come in time, he jumps on the door... that gets our attention. LOL But to me it's interesting to hear dog's ways of communicating with their humans, to let them know something. |

Both Jackson and Shelby whimper when they have to go to the bathroom.
When Jackson wants to play he will do this kind of chase his tail thing where he jumps and turns in a cirlce one time. It is really funny to watch. When Shelby wants to play she gets really bouncy, and gets up on her back feet with her front paws in the air. |

Jesse runs around. If he wants food he'll make you follow him and then go racing into his bed in the loungeroom (his bowl is up the end near the dining table) and wait for you, or he stands under the dining table and stares at his bowl. If he wants attention he'll prance around you and try to get you to pat him or he'll take a flying leap (hey he's tiny ya know LOL) to get onto the lounge and then push his head into your leg or arm, what ever is in reach. LOL
If he needs to go outside, he bounds around in circles like he wants to play and bounces over to the stairs and back to me. I think he does that because I try to make out it's the most wonderful thing in the world if he goes downstairs and outside, so he gets really excited about it. Cass. |

Zada never makes any sounds.......she just uses body language. If she wants to play outside she will go to the door and look back at you without moving an inch. If she's tired and wants a nap and I'm sitting in the same room, she will touch my leg with her paw and sit just inches from me and just wait till I pick her up so she can nap on my lap or the sofa. If after a long time I don't pick her up she will go get in her snuggle bunnie. When she is having some free time in the house she knows what drawer has her treats and will go sit by it.

Boxer Mom

Topper is a pacer. If he's anxious, he paces back and forth. He's done it since the day we got him. He pulls his lips up when he's really happy, like he's "smiling" but some have mistaken it for the beginning of a growl.
Alley wiggles her whole but when she's happy, and jumps up on her back feet. She gives you puppy dog eyes, that only a Boxer can give, when she's upset, or wants whats on your plate. Laney is always so happy, I'm not sure if she has any other mood, except, sleepy, and then she comes over, lays on you with her head on you and falls asleep. |

Well, Rose "A-rooos" at me when she is happy, but she is also a big user of body language to tell me what she is feeling/wanting.
Blackie isn't vocal at all in comunicating, unless I'm not outside when I normally am, and then he barks once, waits a second, barks again, waits a while, barks again, etc., etc. unitl I come out. He uses his tail and his ears to communicate most of the time. Rush (my cat) is the ruler of us all. He'll meow and pester us when he is out of food or water, and when he is outside and he wants in, he'll knock on the door. (It freaked me out the first time I heard it because it was the dead of the night and I thought somebody was trying to break in. lol But then I realized two things: The dogs weren't barking and I heard meowing. lol) And then He'll also hiss, and give us warning swats if we are annoying him. |

Jose wiggles and whines when he's hungry. Well, he's always hungry but when it's 8:00a.m. and 4:00 p.m. I don't need a clock to know when it's meal time. He's a good communicator and will come and get me if he needs to go out, boppin' around, looking at me and then going out of a room, coming back and forth, till he makes me understand.
Chulita is quieter and just looks expectant in my eyes when she is hungry. She's my major licker and does the give me 5 thing with her paw when she's being affectionate or playful. She loves lying on her back in my arms like a baby and playing with her paw or mouthing me....ever so gently. She's a little sweet heart. Lyric isn't a big eater, just like Chuli, but if he's hungry and his bowl on the counter, he'll stand there and shove his nose against the counter edge really hard till it curves and squishes upward. He just stares at his bowl and his breathing is wheezy since his nose is partly squished. He's really weird. I always laughed when he did that so that may contribute to his "skill." LOL. He whines if he needs to go out. And yelps when he wants to come in. He is quite demanding. LOL. He has so many expressions and body language moves that I could never cover them all. He wiggles that little docked tail so fast and furiously. He uses his paws A LOT for play, for affection and his whole body wiggles. He lays his ears out like airplane wings when he is especially affectionate and gives his paw. |

Bingo is hungry whenever he hears the plates clattering when we're preparing for a meal. So he's hungry when im hungry. He usually whimpers or does this high pitched bark. Duchess is pretty good about begging or making noise when she's hungry. She only shows it when i'm bringing their food out..usually by jumping up on her hind legs

Whenever Chico wants a treat, he'll come up to me and lickhis lips. Sometimes, he shakes his head, "Yes". One time, I went shopping with my Mom and when we got back, he gave us heck for leaving and he went, "Raw, raw raw."

Most of my dogs like nudgeing me or just staring at me when they need something. It's actually kind of freaky when you get three or more of them just staring straight at you at the same time
Other than that they will speak to me. They howl like they are talking to me.....LOL...It's really cute ![]() |

When Colby needs to go out, she'll usually sit at the door and wait, unless she really needs to go, then she'll start dancing and come and put her head in my lap then rush to the door. If she's hungry she'll usually give me the, "I'm starving, feed me!" look, or she goes and stands by where their food is stored. When she's happy she gets all silly, zooming around, barking at me. (one reason why she is nicknamed "Physco Mutt".)
Mayberry sits by the door if she needs to go out, she does a very quiet bark (she's not much of a barker) if she really needs to go. If she's hungry she gets in my way and stares at me. Sometimes she'll place her paw on my lap, too. When she's happy, she wags her tail non-stop. Tippy also sits at the door if she wants to go out, if she really needs to go, she starts barking at me and running around, jumping up ocassionally. If she's hungry and I'm eating, she'll stare at my food. When she's happy, she pulls back her lips and smiles, and woowoowoos at me. |

One of the things Tia does, is catch my eye and look at me. Like she's trying to send me some secret message, or something. I can usually figure out what I'm supposed to be "getting", based on where we are in her daily schedule...last time fed, last poop or pee, last time we had a walk or a romp. Sometimes, I think she just wants to know whether or not she's going to get to go with me for the day. Once she knows it's "yes, you get to come" or "I want you to stay here", she kicks back a notch & doesn't press me.
If she is somewhere out of site from me, and really has to go to the bathroom "rightnow!", she'll pick up the last thing I handled in her mouth, not really chewing it up, but mouthing it. It's like she does it to connect with me by remote. I also think she does it as an alternative to having an "accident". It's kind of weird! |
