Exclamation Update on Lilly's new home

Well, after a 2 1/2 hour ride, we made it to Sebring, Florida. Gena has a BEAUTIFUL house... and she's selling it! But, she will be moving within the next month and Lilly is going to have 17 acres of fenced land to run on! I am so happy that Lilly is going to this lady. She seemed very nice when we met her, as well as her friend who is a trainer. She owns female dobies... the name of the "services" is Paws Performance.

Well anyways, when we got there, Ashley (the trainer) wanted Taz (her mellow JRT) and Lilly to meet on neutral territory. When Taz greeted her at first, he was licking her lips, and rolled over a couple of times. Ashley wanted to see this, and saw that Lilly would probably end up dominating Taz. Well my mom walked over to see how things were going and Taz went to jump onto my mom. Lilly wanted to play and pawed at him, and Taz snapped at her. Lilly of course let out a "huff". The trainer said it was good to see this, and she wanted to let them work things out with out getting hurt. We left for about an hour, so she could test Lilly inside without any familiar people around. We came back, and they said she did pretty good. She practiced commands with her, to see what all she knew. Gena is eventually going to break Lilly into her own commands.

One thing we were skeptical about, was around Gena's house.. there is a lake/river and it has gators in it. Lilly is used to going into the intracoastal and swimming, so we were worried about her jumping in. Gena reassured us though that Lilly is not going to be left outside off lead. But since she's moving now in the next month, we shouldn't have to worry about that.

Gena and Ashley's first words were "She's beautiful!". Funny thing is... Gena is a single lady. Probably in her late 40's maybe mid. Gena isn't too crazy about men, and I guess the workers that have been working on the dirt road, come up in her yard and sit, and Gena feels very uncomfortable about this. Well, Lilly isn't very fond of men either, so I think it is kind of a good match. But nobody take that the wrong way! Lilly is in no way aggressive to anyone. The only person she ever showed aggression to was my old boss at Boston Market. He was a jerk anyhow... dog's have that sense to tell the bad people from the good!

To tell you the truth, I didn't really cry, and only because I was extremely comfortable with the home she's going to. Not only that, she was more of my mom's dog, which this totally crushed my mom to do it. Ashley wants to stay in contact with me... because she's very excited that I want to be a dog trainer/behavorist. She wants to be able to help me with any questions that I have.

I just got an email from Miss Gena yesterday on how Lilly did, and here is what she said:
Quote:
Hi guys:
Lilly is doing great. She and Taz are playing some and still getting use to each other. As you know she doesn't really know how big she is and Taz is reminding her he is smaller and gets hurt easier. All in all things are wonderful. I say this as I hear my couch coming off the ground as Lilly is banking off the cushions and running around the living room with Taz barking at her heals. My furniture will never be the same. Oh Well!!!! She slept in my bathroom last night where the A/C vent was blowing right on her. She started out on the foot of my bed and I had flash backs of years past when it seemed as though I had a vibrating bed from dogs panting. I was glad she was uncomfortable and moved. She patiently waited for me to figure out her crate yesterday and gave me a few puzzled looks as I struggled to figure it out, but has gone in it when ever instructed to with no problems. She is going to work out great. Will be going to White Springs soon and will be out of touch while there, but will keep you posted. Do you have a command for her to load in her crate? How many times a day and what time did you feed her? Did you ever feed her in her crate? Was her food dry kibbles or moistened? Tomorrow I may introduce her to my male realtor who is a dog person too. I'm a little nervous about it, but will watch her carefully. She went for her first ride in the golf cart yesterday and loved it. Taz showed her all about that. It appears my house has sold, so I will be moving to White Springs probably within the next month or so. I promise I will keep in touch. XOXOXOXOXOX from Lilly. Thank you sooooo much for her. She is great.

The most interesting part was that she goes into her crate when told to. We had to almost always bribe her with a treat here at home, and she would go in occassionally for me. I am also very pleased to hear that she slept with Gena up on the bed. I think things are meant to be!

We took a couple pics of miss Lilly before her departure, as well as Gena's house and while Lilly was getting to know Taz. For now I'm only going to post the pictures of Lilly, since my internet is extremely slow.

Seeing that I have no clue in how to stack yet, I was just putting her in a "semi-stack" position to get a really nice picture of her body.

Bye Bye evwybody!!

Miss her little wiggly butt, and her snorting

It really does sound like Lilly is in a wonderful home and will be very well taken care of. I am sorry it didn't work out for you but can't thank you enough for taking the time to raise her and put her needs in front of your own, it takes a great person to take a dog in and an even better person to put the dog in front of their own feelings and wants. Great job! **hugs to you and Lilly**

Thanks everybody, and thank you Crossfire.

The best we did, was get her up to par on her health (being extremely skinny) giving her some training, and socializing her. A couple days before we left, she started to try and exert her dominance on Denali. She began trying to mount Denali, and of course... she wouldn't have it. So I think we would have had some issues along there, but I think she's much better off in her new home.

I do hope we are able to visit her when she's older, and once she's completely settled in her new home. I know it will probably be a while, but I do hope we can see her sometime.

This is the 2nd dog we've rehomed... the first being a Pit bull. Sadly our first turned out horribly wrong, because of people whom we thought could trust, and broke it. Now we have no idea where Amee is, but I do hope she's in a good home.

I actually talked to my mom, and I want to do fostering. Especially for the South Florida Siberian Husky Rescue, as they only have one foster home for all of their dogs. The problem is my dad... so, I have some thinking to do!
