Update about Trish....
Sorry, I know I haven't been here in forever, but I've been very busy. Hopefully I'll be able to post more often now.
Anyway, a TON has happened as far as GEB is concerned: -First of all, GEB is slowly but surely starting to change their policies regarding training. Instead of leash "corrections," we're starting to do tuning in exercises with our dogs. Last week in class, we would say the dog's name, and if they responded, we would say "yes" and give them a kibble. Sort of like clicker training. The theory behind this is if they're sniffing, you can say their name and they'll look at you and stop sniffing. Personally, I like this a whole lot better than the leash corrections (I wish they had done this a whole lot sooner, but I'm just happy that they're doing it now) -Trish is going up to NY on 4th of July weekend with her sister Thelma for her IFT and broodwatch. I still don't understand why she has to go up so young, but there is a possibility that she might be able to come back to us for a little while. Hang in here, this is sort of complicated:-If Trish and Thelma pass the broodwatch test (which is 3 days long), they'll do all sorts of health testing on them. If they both pass the health tests, they will then send up all of their siblings to do health testing on them (the reason being that if all of the other siblings have health and/or behavioral problems, they're probably genetic, so they'll probably be in Trish and Thelma, too). Since this testing on the other siblings will take a while, Trish might be able to come back and stay with us while the other siblings are being tested. -If Trish doesn't pass broodwatch but does pass her IFT test, she'll go in for guide dog training. -What I don't understand is what will happen if Trish flunks her IFT as well as her broodwatch. Will they send her back for a couple of months since she's so young, or will they just drop her from the program altogether? -Trish is officially a year old now (her birthday is June 9th) ![]() |

If I have it right if she fails IFT she goes to a pet home and the puppy raiser gets first say of where she goes...or maybe other service dog organizations give her a try...Like a seizure alert dog doesn't have to be as mellow and collected as a guide dog.

^^ Yup, that's right, but what I want to know is if Trish flunks her IFT, will I get her back for a couple of months because she's so young?

I'm considering keeping her if she flunks, but I'm not 100% sure.
