How many of you got your dog from a petstore?

Not me. All my dogs were either rescues (my current furbaby is from the RSPCA) or from people who couldn't keep them anymore.
I would never ever buy from them now, but when I was a child (if my mother wasn't someone who dislikes animals) I would have saved up all my pocket money and bought one though (they were cheap back then). Glad I didn't however.

I got both my girls from a petstore in London, I didn't know a lot about rescue organisations until just recently or i probably would have got a rescue animal. I don't regret buying my two girls at all, i see buying a dog from a petstore as sort of rescuing it anyway because there are so many bad owners in the world who knows where the dog could end up. I'm happy to give my two sammies a loving home. It's a shame that people buy a dog without considering what effect it will have on their lives. Dogs are a lot like children, they need plenty of love, lots of care and a lot of cleaning up after and a lot of people aren't prepared to do that.

Except that you're funding not only the pet shop but also the back yard breeder or puppy mill who bred the pup to continue to produce more badly bred dogs from over worked and unhealthy stock. None of these people care why you buy them.. as long as you pay up.

Glad your two worked out for you though.

Not me, I got Maggy from a yard sale. she was just a puppy and her mom stopped feeding her and the owners kept yelling at the puppies for being noisy. so I asked if I could have them, there were 2 left and I kept Maggy and my best friends dad took the other one cause he was looking for a Shepherd mix too.

I bought my three shelties from a breeder and the labs were kind of "rescued".

Nope.. I flat out refuse to walk in one of those wretched places. I will not help keep them in business. One pug here came from a breeder, the other 4 are rescues.

Winston is from a breeder. A little later in life, when we have more room and older children (right now we have zero children and like it that way), we'll get pets through rescues.

I refuse to buy from a Petstore...and I'm even going as far as to not buy anything from a Petstore that sells dogs or cats.
We got Blackie from a friend who found him as a stray, and we rescued another stray that found its way to our door, and she had pups, so that is how we got Rose.

I would never buy from a petstore, ever. My parents bought an Old English Sheepdog from a Doktor Pet Store back in 1981 and even though she was a sweet dog and we didn't have any problems with her - none of us would ever buy again from a petstore. Rescuing or buying from a good breeder is the way we bring animals into our family nowadays with rescuing being the priority.

I got Mystic from a breeder and the others all came from rescues or shelters.

My 2 sibes were adopted from other families needing to find homes, and Denali unfortunately came from a pet store

And I think she may have HD.

Sheiba came from a couple, but they purchased her from a breeder, and Sarge was a rescue.

18 years ago we bought emma from a petshop but our other girls came from breeders.
