Arrow How many people Sponsor Pets?

I was just wondering how many people sponsor pets on a regular basis? I've started sponsoring a pet every two weeks. I just started this recently so I've only sponsored two. The sponsor money is tax deductable but that's not my reasons for doing it. How many do the same thing. My pattern is to sponsor a dog one time a cat the next and I always look for the one that's been their the longest or I think is least likely to become adopted. Do you have a pattern or deciding factors?

Quincy, which I believe I've already mentioned and Reba.

I've never done it, but I think I will look to do it sometime in the future. I've heard of sponsoring, but don't know much about it. I would really like to get into fostering, but I don't have very much time (or energy) right now to do it. Thanks for helping me remember another alternative for helping an animal!

That is fantastic! I do not sponsor pets. But I do regularly donate to a certain rescue organization. And I donate materials (toys, collars, newspapers, etc) to a local humane society.
I'll have to look at petfinder for more information on sponsoring. But I'm not sure how much money, if any, I could sponsor. Usually, the little I have left after monthly bills and expenses goes to what I mentioned above. I rarely have extra money. My mother is always telling me to treat myself to something sometime. But I still plan to check it out... maybe in the future I can get involved.

Here is how it works.

I go on petfinder and look at the pets at my local humane society. I also am on their mailing list for their yahoo group so I get an email with all of the newbie's dropped off. Anyway I go through petfinder until I find one that strikes me. This is where my thoughts of sponsoring older animals that have been there awhile comes in. Breeds that are of particular fancy to me get my attention as well. I pick which one I want and then I use paypal to send twenty dollars to the humane society. I then drop them an email stating which animal the donation was for. They normally get back to me within a day or so and update the petfinder add. You can have them put your name up like mine is or you can remain annonamous. Whichever you prefer.

I always bookmark the pets ads that I have sponsored and keep going back to them periodically to see if they've been adopted.

Now of course each humane society may conduct business differently, but thats the way mine does it. It's simple, quick, and it helps.

Mellie good for you for donating materials they need. When I moved I had a crate given to me that ended up being too small for Kota. I gave that to them. Other than that I just stick with money.

The twenty dollars I spend every couple of weeks is like a pizza order for us. So even though our budget may be tight I can make it even tighter and give a little back to these forgotten pups and kittens.

The humane society here even had a goat! It got loose on the road and no one clamed it. Of course many people were in line to adopt him so their was no need of sponsoring.

Well, I didn't know you could sponsor a pet either. I do donate to a bulldog rescue, and do fostering, and transports on occasion.

Thanks for the info! I looked into some of the shelters around here, and they have the "Sponsor a Pet" option too. That's awesome.
