Problem with breed club
I thought this was most appropriate here, not in Dog Clubs, because this is more negative.
I have been made aware that one of the officers in one of my breed clubs has been breeding a stud dog indiscriminately. There are currently 3 litters on the ground that are being sold in the paper. He is an alright dog, with a Bench Championship, a JH and an obedience title, but the bitches are not so good. Some are not even registered. One ad listed the puppies as Champions. When the sellers were asked what that meant, they responded that the puppies sire had gone grand champion over 40 times, and champion over 100 times. ??? They didn't know what that meant, just that's what they were told. I have met this person at shows. This person also has another stud that will be reaching 2 shortly. He has his bench championship. What would you do? Confront the person? Confront the club? Or am I making a mountain out of a mole hill. Mind you the Parent Club Code of Ethics explicitly states you will "breed only with the intentions of improving the breed", "refuse to breed a stud to any female which is markedly inferior physically, mentally or temperamentally." "choose only healthy parents of good temperament and qualities in relation to the Weimaraner's AKC-approved official standard, and whose hips have been X-rayed and certified free from hip dysplasia". As I see it 4 of the 6 Breeding ethics are not being followed. Is there a plausible explanation for this that I'm missing?? Remember, this person is not just a member of the club, but an officer. |

Can you inform the other officers of the club anonymously and let them know what is happening? That way you are out of it and the club officers have the information and they can choose to act on it or ignore it.

That's terrible. I would do like Sheltie said. That sounds like a good idea.
I don't think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It sounds wrong to me too. |

Oh dear, not even going to have a go at this one this morning. Your breed clubs rules are much like that any any reputable / ethical club and in a perfect world it wouldn't be happening but I can't say I'm overly shocked by this.
I'll come back to this later today after I've had some coffee, spent my last day at work and pondered how I want to answer this. ![]() |

Aaaaahhhh, people with power seem to think they can do what they want....GSCA is going through some rough times, now too. Re-writing the COE stating a bitch can be bred under 18 months, and the stud before that, too. Has everyone up in arms. Not to mention a lot of memebers/officers are not going by the COE when they breed. I am not a member for that very reason. Too much fighting, unethical COE, and just bad practices by everyone all the way around. Makes ya wonder, what is the dog world coming too?
