I would say a local case that happened last year. A woman somewhere in Ky (Though not near me) had over 50 horses all emaciated and near death. 5 that could be seen from the road were lying in the pasture dead. Their response to animal cruelty charges: It wasn't their responsibility to feed the horses. Though they owned them...... hum....... Yep ladies and gentlemen, some people are pretty dumb. Unfornatunatly here in KY it DOES have to get that bad before they will take large animals away.

There was a case that happened in my area that was similar to one that made national headlines. I can't believe this incident happened more than once. It is disgusting.
A young man temporarily kidnapped a family's dog and abused and raped it. He then sent it back home. The dog suffered physically as well as emotionally. The story goes that the poor dog continuously banged it's head against a wall upon returning home. And it was severely damaged internally from the rape. It had to be euthanized. One of the family's children was away at college during this time. He was the one that bonded with the dog the most. When he heard the horrible news, he threatened to kill the man who did that to his dog. Police actually put him on a watch so he wouldn't go through with his threats. The man who committed the crime was arrested. I'm not sure what happened to him, but I bet it wasn't enough.
Goodness. This makes me cry just thinking about it.

Well, I haven't seen nothing here in Nevada. But on Animal Planet, I saw a dog who was extremely skinny, emaciated, and was very close to death. It was a small chihuahua terrior mix, only about the most a year old, that was found in a backyard without any food and dirty water. Problem was, the water bowl was far away and the dog couldn't even get up from how weak and skinny it was. It was literally only skin and bones, no muscle mass left.
The animal control took the dog right away, but unfortunally, it'd be too late. They opened the dogs mouth for a check up and found a bone in the dogs mouth that covered the dog's throat. For this reason, the dog couldnt eat and grew weak. The owners claimed they fed their dog, but of course with the bone stuck in it's throat, it couldn't swallow anything.

It angers me because I know they had to at least see that the dog was getting skinner or that it wasn't eating the food they "fed" the dog. All they had to do was open the dog's mouth and find the bone and remove, just as easily as the vets did. The poor dog died because no one cared to check what was wrong.. The dog died minutes later the bone was removed. It didn't have a chance in living since it was so weak, but if it had responsible owners, or even neighboors, it could have been prevented.

My "ex"aunt (divorced from uncle by this time) who decided she didnt want her dobermans anymore (purposefuly treated ill to make them 'mean' their whole little lives) and locked them, ALIVE, in an empty chest freezer on her property. I was like 6 when it happened. I know the neighbors reported her.

She also once put rabbits in the oven "to warm them" after she brought them in from their uncovered outdoor hutch in the winter.

She was a sick, stupid, selfish individual.

All those stories are really, really horrible and so sad!
I haven't personally seen any abuse happen to an animal, but lately on the news here there have been a few stories about groups of teens torturing kittens (kicking, throwing them against walls, and other awful things).

That's horrible. Glad she was reported for the dobermans at least. But those poor rabbits.

these stories are really awful, and sad it angers me what some people will do to these poor animals. I rescued a doberman bitch about 10 years ago she had been left in a flat by the owners who moved out and left her there. I was told about her by some kids that had heard he barking. So I went round there and peered though the window, to my horror not only was she locked in there but she had at least two pups that I could see too. To cut a long story short, I broke into the house and took her and the two pups out there were also remains of 3 other pups she must have ate them to survive they were all so thin. she must have known I was going to help her as she so happy to see me she licked me half to death, which was very lucky for me. I loaded her and her babies into my car and took them home and phoned the rspca. They came out and gave them all a complete health check apart from being very under weight they were all fine. I named the bitch tessa and with the help of the rspca we found homes for the pup which were about 6 weeks old.
The owner that had left them there was banned from keeping any animals for life, so at least i knew there was no chance they could ever do this to another animal. I was charged with breaking and entering by the local council and made to pay for the window I broke and a fine of £500. It was worth every penny and I'd do it again tomorrow if need be, Tessa stayed with me for the rest of life, she spent 6 very happy years with me before getting caner and having to be pts. A happy ending for her.

Well it wasnt in FL, and i dont know where it was but its pretty sad. Some guy took a stray kitten hung it over a tree by its neck. Then watched his dog destroy it, then lift it up and the dog went crazy(the kitten died after much torcher). Some little kids were watching....he was found not guilty.
Also in NJ, yound kids 11 or 12, are spoted snaping the necks of puppies....that dont show aggerstion, or arent good fighters. Pretty sad how many freakos there are out there.

A girl that was a friend with one of my friends had a dalmatian. She let this dalmatian get pregnant (of course by not fixing it) and then her living situation changed. When the puppies were born she was living in a new place and didnt want her landlord to know that she had puppies so she locked the puppies in a tin shed (in the heat of the summer) with no airflow whatsovever. A couple of weeks later she decided that the dogs were mentally retarded (from being left in the hot shed for weeks) and drown each one of the puppies by hand. The saddest part of this is that she had a child less than a year later. It is truly distrubing what people do to their animals.

Tape Shows Driver Deliberately Killing Ducks

Anna Duckworth
Reporting

(CBS 5) A man was caught on surveillance videotape deliberately running over nearly a dozen ducks in the South Bay.

The ducks lived at the Delta Queen Car Wash in Campbell in a man-made pond. But last Friday night, tape shows a young man in a red Acura deliberately and repeatedly running the ducks over in a rampage that lasted 16 minutes. At one point, the man is seen getting out of the car, chasing a group of ducklings, and grabbing several by the neck. Ten ducks in the flock of about 30 were killed.

'It's sickening to look at," said car wash manager Chris Foley. "Someone who does that, there's something wrong with them."

The first duck killed was named Rocco by car wash worker Kimble Simpson, who helped to take care of the animals

"I went into a state of shock, because I couldn't believe some of the things I saw," said Simpson. "I couldn't believe this man just comes in here late at night and callously kills one of my favorite ducks."

Car wash patrons were equally shocked.

"I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that," said Christina Rose.

The face of the perpetrator is hard to see in the video, but he appears to be in his late teens or early 20s. The car is described as a late 80s or early 90s model two-door red Acura Integra. The car appears to have California vanity plates, and there is a blue parking-type sticker on the driver's side read window.

Police say the man could face felony animal cruelty charges, which could carry a sentence of up to three years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Working in horse rescue I have seen and heard some rather heart breaking cases. I'll share my favurite one because it has a very happy ending.

This guys had a stable full of horses which was very dark, musty, and gloomy. Some of the horses paced their stalls daily because they had never been let out of their stall. Others just stood there with dull grey eyes peering out at you. All of them were very thin some emaciated. The guy who owned the horses fell into financial difficulties and couldn't afford the horses anymore, not like he could afford them before anyways as he really wasn't feeding them much. He decided to sell everything and move to the city. After a certain amount of time and becoming more desperate to get rid of the horses so he could get to the city the man decided to just sell them to the slaughter house. When the truck came it filled up fast with empty souls finally being released from their cells through a sad death. At the very back of the barn in a dark corner stall stood a weak mare and two tiny little colts - twins. It was a miracle they both survived the birth and were still alive at 2 weeks old. The truck could only fit one more horse. The man decided to send the mare since she would fetch more money from the slaughter house and the two little ones wuold soon be dead anyways without mum there. Thankfully word got out of the two little darlings and they were rescued and brought to us. Care had to be given around the clock but as each day passed Cheyenne and Phoenix gained strength and GREW. Today at 4years old both boys are alive and doing well! Phoenix has gone to live with a friend and has made a fine mount for the family and Cheyenne is still with us and is undergoing training for the saddle. Niether seem to have long term effects from their hard start at life though they do shy away from quick movements from being abused during their first 2 weeks alive. I love my Chey-boy so much and he is a great inspiration to so many.
