I've always found that the best toy, is the one the dog likes best.

It depends on the dog. Mine prefers squeaky/soft toys or bones. My grandma's poodle Roxie prefers to fetch so she likes balls and such. Max, my grandma's other poodle prefers squeaky or other noise making toys because he doesn't fetch and needs something to remain interested and preoccupied.

My chihuahua's favourite toy is a small tennis ball.
My Jack Russell x doesn't really play with toys anymore, though when he was a puppy we had a rubber tug-o-war toy which he loved.

The Kong is super cool. It is just this rubber oval shaped thing that you stuff treats into. The kongs bouce also. You can freeze them to make them last longer. It takes the dog a while to get all of the treat (especially if you put peanut butter in there) which gives them something to do & (most important to them) something good to eat. Both of mine love them. IMO I think they are great toys. *l* I just wish I would have been the one to think of it!

Morgan's changes every time he goes into the garden. It's the first thing he picks up along the way. Merlin's is anything he can push towards you with his nose. Lacey's is a 12 year old Kong that my friend gave me when her Great Dane died.

Kongs are brillant, since my dogs are only interested in food! they wont even chase a ball for me, but they will do anything for a kong with cheese!!

Mine love their Kongs. I have all sizes and shapes, and the way they bounce when you throw them!! It's hysterical to watch the dogs go after them!!

Well, having spent approximately fifty gazillion dollars on dog toys, I can say with certainty that the best toy is an empty plastic water bottle. *sigh*

My dogs favorite toy has got to be his plushy toy, 'Dolly'. It looks like a lamb, and has the tug toys as arms and legs. Other than that, he loves pop bottles. Can't leave one sitting around or else he will get to it and chew it up!

Orna - I saw a show, years ago, where they tried to figure that out. What they came up with was that different breeds have different peripheral vision. So basically, some breeds (like sighthounds) have a large area of peripheral vision and therefore have the ball in their sight for a longer period of time. They believed that dogs with a smaller area of peripheral vision (eg: pugs) weren't as interested in chasing balls because the ball disappears out of their sight a lot faster. So unless they're desperate to play with the toy, they're basically not going to be as likely to see it.

Of course, sometimes it's just personal taste. Hehehehe!

Hmm... did that make sense. It's kinda late here in Aussieland so I hope I didn't just type a whole bunch of gibberish. LOL

Back to the original question....

My dog has no interest in toys what-so-ever. Never has. He does love playing with other dogs though....so I guess they're his favourite "toys".

Cass.
