my trip to the vet...

The other day, I took Mazie in to get her first set of shots, which she did very well... not even a yip!

We were waiting for the doctor to call her in and the phone rang. The lady at the counter appeared to be trying to calm down the person on the other end... When she got off the phone, I overheard her tell the other receptionist that she was just talking to a woman whose dog was just stolen and they were on their way to that vet to have her put down because she was too agressive and bites people. She gave the description, name, breed.. Her name is Precious and is a black lab/chow mix. Sure enough, 10 minutes later, a lady walks through the door, dragging a black lab/chow dog behind her.. I talked to her and asked her the name... She said, "Her name is Precious. I'm having her put down because she bites everyone." ... She did not bite me, nor show any signs of agression and was extremely playful towards Mazie. She told me she's been looking for a home for Precious for quite sometime and just couldn't take care of her anymore...She went up to the counter, and the vet/receptionist refused to put her down because she wasn't showing any signs of agression and had no proof of the bitings..this angered the woman to no end.. Me, knowing that the dog was stolen, offered to take the dog home with me... It took awhile for me to convince her to let me have the dog, but she finally gave me the leash and walked out the door. After she drove away, the receptionist called the upset lady back. She gave the license number for the dog and described what she looked like. Shortly after, she was at the vet's office, and couldn't have been happier. She thanked me and offered me a reward, but I turned it down, saying that my reward was seeing a young, non-agressive dog live another day and go home with its rightful owner. She thanked me again and went home, Precious wagging her tail the entire way to the car.

Now who says reverse psychology doesn't work?

Wow!
Was the lady that stole the dog related to the owner or perhaps a neighbor? How did the owner know the lady would bring the dog in to be put to sleep? -Probably questions only they can answer

I'm glad you were there to rescue the dog, otherwise who knows what might have happened to the poor dog.

Wow, talk about being in the right place at the right time! It does make you wonder if it was a neighbor or exactly what the whole story is behind that one.

No one has the right to take anothers dog for any reason. Too bad the person behind the counter didn't call the owner back while the other woman was still there and then called police. Would have been interesting to hear the whole story on this one!

Sad thing is....if it was a neighbor now what happens?

From what the lady who owned the dog told me, the lady who stole it was a neighbor of hers. I wrote down the lady's name and her license plate number and gave it to the receptionist, who called the police. I'll check the police report when the paper comes out later to see if she's been arrested or not.

I don't understand either why someone would do that to an animal.. To me, the dog was extremely sweet and playful to Mazie and the beagle that was in there.. there was also a kitty in there, who puffed up at the dogs, but Precious showed no signs of agression to any of em... She obviously didn't like the person who stole her; she kept trying to pull away and the lady had to drag her across the floor to get her to go anywhere.. I'm so glad I was there too.. No telling what could've happened to her.

It might not have anything to do with the dog, just a neighbor's quarrel or something. When I was little our neighbor ran over our sprinkler because it oversprayed, just a little mind ya, onto his driveway. It didn't even get his car wet! He must have been having a bad day.

Sad, no matter why it happened.

What a bizzare story! I'm glad it turned out well in the end though. That just goes to show you what lengths people will go to to get what they want.

How sick. How can even think of taking a neighboor's dog and trying to put an innocent dog asleep. Makes me mad I am glad you were there to save the dog, or else she probably would have continued to agrue with the vets to put the dog asleep. I'm glad the vets refused though instead of taking the dog in right away without any evidence. Kudos to you for being such a good sameritan. [sp]

The receptionist gave the lady a paper to sign that states that if they were to put the dog down, the vet would not be held responsible for the decision and the lady who stole the dog would be sued, sent to prison, etc. She refused to sign it and that's when I stepped in and offered to take the dog.. The lady didn't know that I knew it was stolen, so with a little reverse psychology, I convinced her to let me have it.

I think I would have had a hard time biting my tongue with that woman. lol You did an awesome job and deserve a standing ovation for a job well done!

If we had a GP member of the day award you'd have my vote!

hehehe.. Thanks all I just did what I thought would be the right thing..

A little more on Mazie's visit though.. We got into the room and put her on the big metal table they've got in there. They had an animal cookie there for her to eat and a piece of butterscotch candy for me (yay!) .. While Mazie was chomping down on her cookie, the doctor gave her the shot.. Mazie looked back then looked up at the nurse as if she's saying, "What in the world are you doing?" Then she basically said, "Meh..." and went back to eating her cookie.. It was pretty funny. She goes in for her next set of shots in a little over two weeks and every 3 weeks until she's 20 weeks old.
