Free Lunch

I just had to relate a story that happened several years ago when I had my rough collie Lacey. We were having a cook out in the back yard and allowed the kids to roast weenies on the fire by themselves. My son Eric, who was about 8 at the time, crouched at that fire and roasted his weenie to perfection checking it often to make sure it was just the color he wanted. When he finished roasting it he meticulously placed it in the bun with just the right among of mustard, ketchup and relish. He picked up his plate and fixed his baked beans and chips just so and found his favorite lounge chair to sit in. Now he didn't want any bean juice on that bun so he held his hotdog in his left hand with his elbow on the arm of the lounge while he got himself situated. Once he was settled he took a big bite of his perfectly cooked hotdog only to come up with a mouth full of bun, mustard and relish. He looked to his left and there stood Lacey with that hotdog in her mouth, she had slipped that dog right out of the bun without Eric even knowing it, and proceeded to enjoy her perfectly cooked hotdog with just the right amount of mustard, ketchup and relish. I watched the whole scene play out in front of me and laughed till I cried. BTW Eric did get himself another hotdog and was lauded by Lacey for his culinary achievements.

lol. I think collies are good for that. Sierra's favorite munchie is hot dogs. Normally she'll get a bite and then Kota gets the rest..one way or another.

LOL This has to do with humans, but one time we were all eating cake at the table and Wesley dropped his fork on the floor. He reached down to get it (thus kinda going under the table) and Melanie (who was sitting right by him) took her fork and took a bite out of his cake quick as can be! lol Wesley didn't even know it untill we told him. He was just like, "Why is everybody laughing?" lol

That is an adorable story. What a sneaky dog. LOL. Do you remind your son of that story ever? Does he remember?

There's a story in my family about my brother who, when he was about 3 or 4 (I think) had a big cookie held in his hands behind his back. My family had a GSD at the time. He brought his hand up to his mouth for a bite of the cookie and it was gone! Hmmmm, some gentle GSD slipped it right out of his hand and he never noticed until that fateful moment of expectation of a delicious mouthful which never materialized. LOL.

They are so sneaky!!

One day my fiance was standing looking up at the tv while eatting a pop-tart and just put his arm down to rest it and all of a sudden our little beagle jumped up and took the rest of his pop-tart and took a long dash to hide under our bed!

What a sneaky thief! About 45 minutes ago, my uncle was eating a plate of spicy jumbo shrimp and watching TV.. He set the plate down and turned to grab his can of beer and he turned back in time to notice Mazie standing at the foot stool (where my uncle put the plate)... She had her front paws on the stool and before anyone said anything, she quickly grabbed one and took off with it.. She ate it and then starting to whine and headed straight for the water dish.. She came back to me and the poor thing had tears in her eyes from the spices..

Another time, about five years ago, we had left the house for a few hours to go visit my grandma and we left Sheba, our Siberian Husky/Chow mix dog, home and in the house.. She's notorious for chewing on things...well, she was until this happened... What she did was she found our two bags of Hershey's Kisses, tore the bag to shreds, and then ate every single one of the kisses, spitting out the wrappers.. We came home to a huge mess and called the vet and we didn't have enough time to run her in and they instructed us to go buy two bottles of hydrogen peroxide and dump it down her throat, forcing her to throw it up.. Mom gave me money and I zoomed down to the store and bought the peroxide and zoomed back.. I had to stradle her to get her to sit still.. the first bottle, I ended up getting more on the ground and on me than in her mouth... All of the second bottle went down, but it took me to hold her down, my brother to hold her head up and mouth open, and my mom to dump it in.. we looked like the Three Stooges! Anyway, we put her on the line outside and waited.. about an hour later, she threw up the chocolate and was acting like her lively self again.. It was pretty scary... but she hasn't chewed up anything in the house since..

Oh, how scary that must have been! These dogs. I tell you what! LOL.

Lyric is about to become a canine good citizen. I'm thinking about therapy dog next....maybe. He'll never make it if he does something like he did a while back. I was pulling my chair up closer to the computer to sit down and had a Ritz cracker sticking out of my mouth, holding it there because both hands were pulling the chair up and Lyric was sitting on the floor right next to me and all of a sudden my cracker was gone from my mouth. That little bugger took it so gingerly right out from between my lips. I couldn't believe it....the audacity! LOL. I told him off and got another cracker.

Hey, that gentleness is key for a therapy dog, LOL.

About ten years ago, I was visiting my sister out in the country, and we had a firepit going and were cooking an entire pork leg. It was kind of an all-day thing, and the dogs were circling, interacting with us and playing with each other... At one point when the meat was close to being done, we all got distracted and left the fire... When we came back, the entire huge piece of meat was off the fire and on the ground with the Rottie mix. The smell must have gotten to be too much for him, because he was such a sweet, well-behaved dog in general.

All we could do was rinse the meat off and put it back on the fire. It was delicious. (The dog didn't get any more, though.)
