Where does she get all that ENERGY!!!
Bailey LOVES to play fetch. My husband and I take her out in the yard and play with her at least 10 times a day plus we throw a soft ball in the house all day for her. We are the ones that always have to end the game because we are tired of throwing the ball. Tonight we decided to see how long it would take for her to get tired and end the game herself. It was a true test of wills. We played for 3 hours and 27 minutes straight, no breaks. She only stopped by her water bowl once to refuel and the game was back on. My husband and I rotated on 1/2 hour shifts. While one of us was throwing, the other had to get ice cold pops and finger snacks to keep our energy levels high. (LOL) She finally surrendered, dropped the ball at my feet and lay down on it. My hubby did a little victory dance yelling WE WIN!!!, forgetting it is after midnight and the neighbors are asleep. Where does Bailey get all that energy????

That's a great story. I can completely understand. Boone is the same way. The worst part is he plays so hard all day and calms down around 7 or 8 and I'm thinking good deal, he's settling in for the night. Nope! He gets a second wind around 9 and is a nut until I make him go to bed. It's so funny.

With Duke we are the one doing the fetching LOL. He will go to it, but he just lays down with it. But hes getting old, and slowing down. But when it comes to tug of war, he will out play anyone.
The pups get their 2nd wind at about 11:30 EVERY night. Its funny, even if they are slepping, they both just wake up and play time begins. |

We always play a hard game when I get home from work at 11pm to really tire her out. If we don't get her tired enough she won't let us sleep. Two nights ago I had a really rough day at the airport and was too tired to play with Bailey very long. I wanted to go to bed! (Those of you going on vacation this summer, think of us poor rampers before you over pack your bag until it weighs 70 pounds!) Bailey would not let me sleep. She kept taking her squeaky cow and hitting me in the face with it, squeaking the darn thing in my ear. She jumped on my chest, ran around the bed and tried to bite my feet. No matter how hard I tried to hide under the covers and curl up in a ball to get away from her, the little weasel got under and licked my face. I fought her off for about 1/2 hour and finally gave up and had to go play fetch in the back yard until 3 in the morning. Then she got me up at 6:00am to go potty! This goes on everyday. If I get sucked into an aircraft engine due to sleep deprivation, its all her fault! I swear this dog needs to be put on Ridolin or something. Dachshunds are not supposed to be this hyper!

Hehe, at least you know how long she can go now... And at least you can sleep for a few hours since she got tired out..
Ripley does the same thing with the squeaky toy in my ear.. And I don't want to take him out on the wet grass at midnight and throw his toy, so I just put him in the crate and turn the lights off. ![]() |

Piper, my lab/border collie, is the same way. She loves to fetch and she's small enough that if you get distracted for a second she will jump into your lap if you're sitting or jump up at you if we're outside. We're always the ones ending the game.

My husband started a new game with Bailey. He bought new golf clubs today and has been hitting balls in to backyard and making Bailey fetch them back to him. He makes her put the ball in the same spot so he doesnt have to bend over and pick it up. He points to a spot in the grass with the club and says "right here" and she puts it right where he points. He spent an hour training her not to run ahead before he hit the ball so he wouldn't accidently hit her with it.
