We acquired a dog today! Pictures and story.

A friend of my dad's called today to ask us to come take a look at a Yorkie a friend of their's had found. The friend who found it couldn't keep him, and neither could our friends, so they were going to take him to the pound. He had collar and tags on, so they'd called the #, which turned out to be the mother of the actual owner. The mother said the owners did not want the dog (something about them being on drugs?), and that they'd paid $1,000 for him originally (think she said they shipped him in from somewhere, too). My theory is it was one of those online puppy mills they ordered him from, paid an arm and a leg, and they got jipped with a mix or a VERY poorly bred Yorkie. Hehe. 'Cause he doesn't look like a Yorkie to me!! You guys can guess from the pictures. I'll post better ones tomorrow when I have natural lighting. So here he is for now:

He came with the name "Bruno", which we all find ridiculous, so we're going to change it as soon as we agree on something. lol Name suggestions are welcome, as well.

Dad called the vet who gave him his rabies shot (it was all on his rabies tag- that was nice), and they were able to tell us he's almost a year and a half old, and he'd had his shots last year. Dad also took him in today, and he got booster shots and a check up. He's extremely underweight, not nuetered, had a tick (possibly more our friend pulled off when she butchered his hair!), and his skin is all messed up from the haircut our friend gave him (she breeds Pomeranians and considered herself qualified, I guess. As good as her heart was, I really wish she hadn't. It's hard to tell which scratches are from being out in traffic and which are from scissors or clippers!!). He almost got hit by three different cars when the lady who gave him to us got out and picked him up. They said his hair was massively matted (there was evidence of this), so that's why they shaved him down to nakedness. Hehe. Poor guy. Anyway, I'll ramble more later if I may. In the meantime, "Bruno" has just followed dad to bed, after sleeping on his lap for several hours. He sticks to dad like glue! The vet also called us back to say they contacted his previous owners (by the # they had on file) as part of procedure or whatever, and they'd talked to a man. The man had stated that the woman we talked to was not the owner, but didn't say anything about wanting him back... So we have that guy's number. *shrug* Sorry this is so long. I've just been talking about him all day! lol Another vet visit (to our vet), and a trip to Petsmart are expected.

P.S. This whole male dog thing is a hoot! We haven't had a male dog for about 6 years, and never a SMALL male dog. One forgets he has to lift his leg to go potty (though he hasn't gone yet). And bathing him was embarassing as I tried to manuever him around in the sink. Hehehe. I feel totally unqualified and lost! Oh, Missie loves him by the way. She's so excited to give him kisses, and wants to play. But I think he's one of those "people" dogs that doesn't care a whit about other dogs, and just wants people instead. She barked at him and he asked me to pick him up. LOL It's sadly hilarious!

So glad he found his way to you! Kudos for taking the little guy in and I hope he gets to stay! Hair is only hair...it'll grow back little guy.

Bless you for taking that poor little guy. He'll be forever your pal and it sounds like you got him just in time. He'll grow his lovely silky coat back and you can have fun grooming him. Your friend may not have had a choice if he was horribly matted. He's probably got razor burns, they will heal. Congratulations on your find!

It's not going to take this pup long to feel like he's died and gone to heaven! What a wonderful thing you're doing. I can't believe his previous owners just wanted nothing to do with him.

My first thought for a name was "Flyer", because of those big old ears.

He looks just like a little Yorkie I fostered one time who came from a closed down puppy mill. He had no name, and I named him Angelo because he was silver and sparkled like an angel. Anyway, he does look Yorkie. Maybe not show quality, but he's a cutie. The ears and face always look so much larger when they are shaved down like that. Just give him a week or so to adjust to all the new surroundings, people and Missie. He will be running and playing with her in no time.
