Unhappy Another Loose Dog Lying Dead by Road

I was on my way to work yesterday and noticed two cars parked on the side of the road. The people were inspecting the dog lying there lifeless, unfortunately. Nothing more could be done for him.

My BF and his boss hit a fox terrier last week which came out of nowhere. This dog died after being run over by their truck and trailer.

I almost hit a rat terrier a few weeks ago. Pure luck that I avoided hitting him. It all happened so fast.

I witnessed a black lab roaming the streets, just last week.

A dog which I nicked with my car last year, is still running loose next to a very busy and dangerous road. A mutual friend knows these people and did mention this to them. Why don't they care enough to keep this dog safe?

One incident that really got to me a few years ago, was a couple who claimed to love their animals, but never managed to keep them safe and healthy. All of their horses had had preventable injuries, or had foundered. One of their dogs was so obese, it couldn't walk. Another dog had a wondering eye from being hit in the head. Their smallest dog had been stepped on by one of their horses. Their two birds had been mishandled to the point of turning them mean. But the real clincher, were their two biggest dogs that were allowed to roam the countyside until a local farmer had had enough of them chasing his cattle, and shot them.

Am I the only one wondering why people can't make an effort to keep their pets safe? I would be very upset if I didn't know where my dog was!

I agree. We fenced in a good-sized play area out back for our dogs. Not only does this keep them secure from running off too far, but it also keeps a neighbor's dog (who ALWAYS wanders alone, and is dog aggressive) away from my dogs.
I know my dogs are good, and wouldn't wander so far away from me. But I wouldn't give them the chance, anyway. I'd be too concerned about their well being. There's any number of bad situations that could happen.

I hear that. Last year two black labs were hit, one almost in front of my house, one two doors down. I remember one woman who'd hit one of the dogs, crying and screaming, she was so upset. Not her fault... fault of the irresponsible owner. I really felt for her. Some things can NOT be avoided when one is driving. Another was a neighbors dog early this summer.. I was in the backyard, heard the thump and the dog screaming. The owner runs out, yelling at the man that hit the dog. He was acting so nutty that the driver took off (he'd stopped and gotten out of his car to see what he could do). The dog wound up dying later on. The LAST one, belonged to a neighbor just on the other side of where the last dog I mentioned, lived. I backed out of the driveway with my mother.. we were pulling away, mom mentions a line in the road... when I looked, I saw the line was attached to a dog and recognized it as another neighbors dog. I did not tell my mother ~#1, she gets very upset, #2, she knew and liked the dog and I saw no reason to upset her. Both of us had returned that dog to its yard in the past, and told the people to keep it in the yard. So later we got back, dog was still there, I went over and informed them their dog was dead. The man didn't seem to care a whole lot. Jerk. Both of those dogs had perfectly fine yards, they only needed to reinforce a place or two.. it was not a big deal, but the owners didnt care and now their dogs are dead.

Four dogs in a year, within a block, hit by cars and killed. Not right.. not right at all.
