Gordon Setter 10 wks old

We purchased Moose through the Internet. The owner was approachable, well spoken, and genuine. Moose had all his shot records in order, was chipped, and we were given the choice of air delivery from middle america or through a pet transportation ground service. We stupidly chose ground as to not stress our puppy out via an airline flight. The delivery charges for either were about the same. After 4 days of mis-communications, missed work, and heart-ache, I was asked to meet the bus driver at such and such a location about an hour from my home. I did this just so I could get our puppy off this bus. When we met, Moose was handed to us like a back-alley drug deal on the side of the road. He smelled he was listless, and there were obviously still about 20-30 puppies still on the bus. I guess we were ignorant in the fact that a delivery service wouldn't cram puppies in like sardines!! His initial vet visit disclosed worms, and kennel cough. ClavaMox has not helped. His appetite for a puppy was/is terrible. He had watery eyes, and green nasal discharge, stopped eating and drinking. He is now in day 4 of pneumonia treatment at our vet. However, he is showing some signs of improvement. We are still cautious as the culture and sensitivity has not come back from the lab. And CDV pictures look just like his nasal discharge. I now understand why some kennels say: "We will not ship our babies" We made a terrible mistake which both Moose and ourselves continue to pay for!

Aww, I feel so bad for Moose Poor baby really has had a tough way to go hasn't he.

There are some breeders who do choose to ship due to the distance sometimes involved, a few are reputable who do take every precaution to make sure that the puppy is the only one being transported and choose their time of travel, airlines and many other things very carefully however, they are the exception rather than the rule.

Personally, I can't imagine shipping a puppy as in my mind it would be like boxing up one of my own children and shipping them. Not only would it break my heart to have them leave my home in that fashion but the thought of something happening along with knowing how very frightened they would be would just kill me! I hope that Moose recovers soon from this terrible experience and illness.

Good luck with your puppy and I hope he gets better soon. It sounds like he came from a puppymill...they are famous for using brokers to sell there dogs for them.

Awwwww poor Moose!!!! It's tough learning life lessons the hard way such as not to purchase a puppy off the internet as they usually come from puppy mills but we all go through our own experiences. I hope Moose pulls through alright!

Moose

We visited Moose today and he looks like a different dog. He was barking, jumping, chewing, and most importantly of all No Green Boogers! Ate a small can of Hills while we played with him. He is up to 14.5 lbs, but he is still very thin. I added his picture so everyone can see his cute little mug. I am almost ready to say he looks like he has turned the corner. I really had my doubts 3 days ago.

Fingers still crossed, and thanks for the best wishes!
