For those in New Orleans and the surrounding area...

I just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers out to those in New Orleans and the surrounding area.

Hurricane Katrina has strengthened to a category 5 with winds up to 175mph and she's still getting stronger, as well as growing larger.

I send you all the best too. You should really evacuate the area if you can. My thoughts are with you. Let us know when it's over, how you are.

I just saw the news on Katrina.

I hope everyone is able to evacuate and the damage isn't too great. Alot of people don't realize that the city is literally in a "bowl" and requires water to be pumped out as it is. I also hope that in a city that size they have something lined up for pet care!

A side note that I heard and thought interesting but not anywhere near as important as human lives......did you know that the city / area is responsible for pumping over 25% of the USA's at home oil? Think gas prices are bad now, if the area gets hit as hard as they believe it will the gas prices are going through the roof.

man, i just saw this. that's utterly bonechilling. i don't live anywhere near lousiana and i've never been there, but i'm scared to death for these people.

I've been watching the news. It's coming. It's devestating....such a catastrophic thing. There are people who cannot get out. I fear for them and the highways are moving, but slowly as people try to leave. This is such a sad thing...to think New Orleans will most likely not be here anymore. The destruction is unfathomable. It is very disturbing to me, living way up north to think of our southern friends having such a rough time. My thoughts are with all.

They said if they had a category 6 on their scale... Katrina would be it. It's one of the strongest storms on record.

My dad has been watching the weather channel, and they said any wood frame house will NOT last. I really don't think there will be much of anything left there... sadly to say. It's a really horrible thing to happen, and I feel bad for the people trying to get out but they can't because of the traffic. If I were them, I would open up the other side of the highway to allow traffic to go that same way, and eventually lead them back into the correct lane.

That's the only thing that stinks about living in Florida and around the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricanes gallor... especially this year.

And can you believe it's not even peak hurricane season yet?

I've only been in one hurricane back in the early 1990's and it was pretty devastating... but I've never seen anything like Katrina.. My thoughts go out to whomever is down there... I've got a friend who lives in Slidell, Louisiana, which is just across the bayou from New Orleans... Haven't heard from her; hope she's okay...
