I'm ready to pop. I wish I could be proud of this nation, I wish I could be proud of my president. I wish I could tell people from around the world where I'm from without hanging my head in shame. I wish my cousins didn't have to risk their lives and take the breath of others in Iraq to lower your price of gas by a couple pennies.

I'm ashamed of the people who follow a criminal in office.

I'm ashamed of the prostituting of this country to oil.

I'm ashamed that a nation would smeer a woman who lost her son in Iraq because she has a different viewpoint.

I'm ashamed of a country that still looks at global warming as fiction rather than fact.

I'm ashamed of every politician who takes advantage of their power.

I'm ashamed of this country, let those words be heard, and I'm not the only one.

I'm ashamed of a nation that still breeds a festering layer of racism and bigotry. Funny how blacks stealing from New Orleans are immediatly looters, but their white counterparts are just searching for food. I'm ashamed because many of my fellow Americans watch the same news footage and are proud at our efforts while I sit wide-jawed, heart pounding with anger, hoping it's just a dream.

Most of all, I'm ashamed of myself because I just don't have the means to bring the truth to those who are jaded with spin. Wake up.

You are pointing fingers at a "nation". But we are the nation. Just because we disagree or are not ashamed of the same things doesn't mean we are any more "jaded with spin" than you are.

And, I find it *absurd* that the race card is being played in the Katrina disaster.

I admire your youthful passion. It gives me hope for the future.

I don't deny being jaded with spin, in fact, I would say someone who is not corrupt with falsehoods is not paying attention. I suppose maybe I'm just sick of bull, but I just don't care anymore. I just want a world where no one dies in wars, no one goes hungry, and there is not a class system. It could happen tomorrow, but greed is a powerful agent in the hearts of all the world's people.

While I too am sick of race cards being played, I think it is a valid one here. However, I think wealth is a more potent divider now.

My "youthful passion" will only corrode me into a bitter, angry man who never saw his dreams turned to reality because man will destoy the Earth long before we learn to love each other.

It seems to me we've all forgotten what patriotism is, and just about everyone seems to have forgotten the nationalism that was so present just a few years back during the 9/11 aftermath.

I don't have a yellow ribbon magnet on my car, I don't donate to the cans in the grocery store, and I don't watch the evening news. But I do write my congressman, I do call the White House. I do complain, but I complain to those that are supposed to be in a position to do something about it. This is a gov't by the people, for the people.
If you feel the gov't is responsible for every citizen out there, then you had better be ready to relinquish some more rights, and you better get yourself mobile, because You are the gov't, and you've got noone to blame but yourself.
I dislike former President Clinton, mostly because I've never seen such brazen bold faced lying by such a high ranking gov't official. I didn't live during the Nixon era, sorry. For all of my dislike for the man, I can still find a few positives enacted during his term in office. He was a figurehead for a network of thousands of officials, secretaries, and overall gov't workings. I don't like Clinton, but I also understand that he is only one man, fallible, and human.
If you want to blame something, try just blaming the gov't. We don't elect Kings in this country. Bush is not responsible for every working in our gov't. If you think that Bush has even read half of what is issued by the White House in any given day, you're nuts. Gov't and any administration is huge!! and it's a sad day when we are "ashamed" of our country, when we're the ones that made it this way!
The gov't puts food on my table, and has for years. I can't stand how parts of it work, but I sure as heck know that we need one, and with the budget issues, the weakness of man, and the billion other factors involved, people are doing just about the best job they can. If you want to focus on the negative, go ahead, but I think your energy could be better spent elsewhere.

Patriotism and Nationalism is the single most deadly wave that can hit any country. It blinds the people and gives government too much power. Look at what has happened in the past in other nations. Look at Hitler, look at Stalin. Look at China.

Clinton lied, this is true. Clinton disgraced the office, also true. Yet, I'd take an unfaithful Clinton than Bush. I dropped my fork when I read you saying Clinton lied more than anyone else you've seen in the oval office...Christ, good thing we liberated Iraq from all those WMDs! Oh...wait...

I agree, I don't just blame Bush, I blame Dick Cheney, Ashcroft, Condi and the gang.

You're right again...I shouldn't look at the negative. After all, what has ever come from looking at the negative? Reform, change, "the positive"?. Yeah, I think I'll just sit back and enjoy the positive...at least I don't own a car, so I don't have to suffer from these high gas prices, there's a positive!

Listen, there is a problem here...a BIG one.

You are echoing the feelings of lots of people from each generation that has gone before you.

Man may destroy the earth before we learn to love each other, but I hope that if you are intent on becoming bitter, you will find other things to be bitter about as you age. Mostly, I hope that you don't become bitter at all.

Anger, on the other hand, gives a nice edge to one's creativity.

Well I just have to say that I do not have any respect for that mother outside the white house. That woman gave a big speech a while back supporting the war and hoowah and everything else. So I think of it this way... It was ok when other people were dying but now that its someone she actually gives a rats *** about then its not ok. WHAT?! I cannot respect hypocrites. Doesn't she realize she is dragging her sons memory through the dirt. he will no longer be remember as a hero that died while fighting for the good of democracy, now he will be remembered as the son of the crazy lady that stalked president Bush.

Also I just have to say that I agree with Novel. Hindsight is 20/20. It is easy to talk about the right thing to do when you aren't the one that has to do it.

I am sick of people using Bush's vacation against him. HE RUNS A COUNTRY. are you saying he doesn't deserve to get away from the white house for a bit? Do you think he doesn't do any work while he is on vacation? If that is what you think then you are nuts. He does the same job at the ranch that he does at the white house. He is never "on vacation" If he doesn't deserve vacation then I don't think any of you deserve any vacation time from your jobs. I mean your job is not nearly as difficult and demanding as his.

I think people Love to hate Bush because he is someone to blame. it is easy to make him the scapegoat for all of americas problems. Got a problem? blame Bush. Hey I am sensitive to the sun. I should blame bush because surely it is his fault that the ozone layer is deteriorating. We all know that just developed while he was president right? That sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Well so does blaming him for the deaths of the people in N.O.

I am sorry but you do realize that levies are made of dirt right? what would reinforcing them have done. Nothing was going to stand up to that kind of storm. i don't care if they made them out of concrete. it just cannot stand up to that kind of power. But please continue to blame bush for all of lifes problems if it helps you sleep better at night.

One last thing, Gas is still more expensive in Canada than it is in some places in the US we pay over 4 bucks a gallon. We don't get our gas from the US so please stop thinking it is a bush conspiracy to raise gas prices to put oil money in his pocket. he does n ot affect our gas or oil and we get gouged worse than the states.

I respect her and her dead son. Good for her, shame on the president for not speaking to her.

Ah, so the fact that Bush has taken more vacation than any other president before him doesn't mean much. I guess he's just different, needs a little more naptime. I have nothing wrong with him taking vacation, but the fact that he decided to stay on vacation when he knew a storm was coming that could crush New Orleans, but I suppose he needs his bike ride. Not only that, but he decided to stay after the storm had hit, great leader.

He cut funding to reinforce his war...so yes, I do blame him.

Well then that fits in perfectly with the fantasy world you live in I am sorry but it is easy to blame bush and thats all there is to it. I notice there aws no argument about the levies not being able to stand up against that kind of power. Just a sarcastic remark which leads me to believe that I am correct. SO now that we have established that reinforced levies would not have helped why was it bush's fault?

Ha, nice way to give yourself my approval. Well, not really.

Let's take a look, no one knows for sure if the levies would have held up. However, I think there is a little questions about the marsh lands. Marsh lands help to protect against strong winds and the storm surges that knock down levies. With the team of a new, strong levy system that was being put in place, and the preservation of the marsh, New Orleans would not be in the amount of trouble it is in now.

Would you care to take a guess who cut marsh protection in favor of the development lobby?

Maybe you need to look a little deeper Quincy. Life is a precious gift and no government can take away a persons spirit unless the person lets them.
I believe a time will come when we have global peace but I also believe it wont be a man that achieves the miracle

In ancient days the king ( leader of his realm) always headed his soldiers in war.Now the cowards tell the young to lay down their life for their country while they stay home safe in their white house etc.

Something stinks here lol

Hmm... Didn't they evacuate the city of New Orleans BEFORE the hurricane hit? How could he have gotten there before hand when the city was shut down? And he sure as hell wasn't going to go there during the hurricane...that'd be like throwing yourself infront of a moving bus and hope you survive.. Just because it didn't look like Bush responded immediately to the situation doesn't mean he didn't care..

I only drive when I absolutely have to.. I just got back from town a couple hours ago and the price of gas there was up to $3.099/gal...and our governor, Christine Gregoire, a democrat, is not helping matters much.. She just passed a new gas tax that raises gas prices in the state of Washington another 9 cents... Bah... I donate these 2 cents of mine to lower gas prices... (Hey, might as well add a bit of humor )

Take care, and good night
