drawing the line (carless/over reacting)
Does taking care of a dog seems harder than a kid? If only our dogs can learn how to talk... inventing something that can tell whats wrong from their barking would be a great help! i have trouble knowing where to draw the line between worrying too much and careless, my vet told me i shouldnt be concerned unless shes got some obious symptoms (fever, pain, bleeding, bloody diahrea, ect.)but i dont want to wait too long until its too late.

I agree with your vet. Sudden changes in behaviour or obvious symptoms like your vet said will tell you.
Don't worry too much about it. Just make sure you tend to her needs (including love and companionship) and worm her, make sure she's not got fleas or ticks and take her to the vet once a year for a check up and I'm sure she'll be fine. As you grow close to your dog, you'll know what's normal and what's not. By the way...the fact that you're so concerned tells me good things about how much you love and want to care for your dog. Cass. |

The more time that goes by owning a dog the more you become intune to when something is really wrong.
I know how you feel about the worry though I have been there. It will get easier lol. And your vet is right. But if ever you get truly worried, well the vets get paid so use them ![]() |

Speaking for myself, I'm a worry wart and I tend to take my dogs to the vet at the smallest little symptoms. My husband has been known to run our dogs to the emergency room over tiny problems too. I would rather be safe than sorry. Last week my husband rushed Bailey to the vet because the pad on her foot was peeling. The vet took one look, laughed, and sent him home without charging him with a bill. She eased his fears by telling him Bailey was probably just running on the pavement too much and that she was just fine but the vet also said she was happy he cares and worries so much about his dogs health.

I agree that after owning a dog for a while, and one you get closer to your furry pal, you'll become intune with your dogs behavior and such. It's very easy for me to tell if something is wrong with my 4. Huskies are known for "fasting" for a day or two. At first we became worried with this and took Sheiba into the vet. After a check up and stool check, her health was fine and we just did a little more research, and talked to other husky owners and it turns out to be something very normal. So sometimes "odd" behaviors can be just a part of your breed. So keep that in mind.
It's always better to be safe than sorry! |
