arachnaphobia anyone?

So I came home from work today and found this on the side of my house....

I scremed so loud!

Each slat of our siding is 4 inches, he took up at least half of it!

I am no pro with spiders but it looks like a banana spider and is poisonus. BE CAREFUL!! I hate spiders and it seems to be spider season here in Florida, I get those big wolf spiders and they come out at night! I swear when I try to kill them they chase me.

im just afraid there will be more someplace else...and soon...

this one is now green goop on the stairs.
banana spiders sound like they stick mostly to where bananas are grown, which thankfully isnt NY.

ok, well I got some info from another site. He was a tellow garden spider also known as a "typical orb spider". I guess they make pretty neat webs. I havent found out yet if they are poisonous or not yet....

Ugh, spiders! I never really had a problem with them until I came to California. We have black widows (although we broke down last year and had an exterminator start coming monthly and their numbers are greatly diminished) and tons of garden and housespiders.

A few years ago, we lived in the front unit of an apartment building and the landscaping brushed against our windows... the amount of huge, scary spiders inside our apartment was unreal. And one day I put on a pair of pants and felt something like a ball of thread in one of the legs... got that cold icy feeling, grabbed the ball of thread, jumped out of the pants, and found an enormous spider. *faints* I sat around for the rest of the day with no pants on, LOL.

We have those in our garden all of the time. And no, they aren't poisonious. And they do make really cool webs. Very pretty too, especially when there is dew on them.
But ya, I can't stand BIG spiders. Or Black and Hairy ones. I don't mind pet Tarantulas, or really small spiders, or Daddy Longlegs, but if there is a big, black, hairy spider extreamly close to me, or on me, I freak out.

No, they aren't poisonous! It's a Golden Orb spider (called "banana spider" in some places in the South). They are benign, friendly spiders and make beautiful webs. They are beneficial. I love spiders.

I'm with Kit....I love spiders and ohhhh the pretty webs those little guys can create! Nothing better than going outside first thing in the morning and seeing a newly spun web with dew all over it.

All spiders are at least mildly venomous, maybe not enough to kill you but they do carry some venom.

Oh it's so pretty! I'm not a fan of spiders but they are fascinating creatures.
If you don't mind, I'm going to save these pictures and email them to my nephew they're his favourite creatures.

Cass.

True. They have to be venomous to kill their insect prey. However, they are not harmful to humans and very slow to bite unless provoked.

Thanks for the info! I always thought they were very poisonous, its nice to no they are not. I am not a big fan of spiders either but inside, I squish them, outside I leave them alone.

I really don't mind spiders, as long as they don't touch me. LOL The only ones I don't really care about are "Daddy Long Legs" spiders. My cat use to eat them... why, I have no clue. LOL

The one thing I CANNOT stand are roaches... omg I would die if one ever touched me. YUCK!!! *shudders*
