Curious about dog running in house

We don't have a problem, but we're terribly curious. Our first floor is set up so that the dog can run around from one room to another in a continuous path. She'll run around several times before eating, before going out the door, etc. She'll run around once and look out the door while we're holding it open, then around again and look, and around again before going out.

In the yard she'll go around the border - it's not a big yard, though it is for the city we live in.

We have no info about her mix - she doesn't look like anything in particular. I guess she looks a little like a shepherd, border collie, Spitz...

Any ideas?

Hehe, sounds like you have a dog with OCD.

It's not too uncommon for Border Collies & BC mixes to have little quirks like that. My guess is that she's territorial, and she's checking out her turf.

Other than that... She might be lacking some exercise and mental stimulation, which could be causing her to circle her territory so much...

All my boston's get that running urge, when they were puppies I called it Puppy Turbo. They all still do it and the oldest is 6 years old, little running spurts lol

Oh, I forgot about "puppy zoomies". If she runs as fast as she can, ears flat against her head and her eyes wide open, it's just a dog thing. Ripley still does it when he gets excited.

Is she a bull breed(just a guess from you user name)? If so they are known for their little rampages. My pups do it all the time, and all of the adult bulls I know still do it.

When it's cold out Reiley will run around like a bat outta hell to warm up but thats about all the indoor running he does... BTW took him up to the local cattle farm the other day... wont be taking him back... I think that may be where he pinched his nerve.

Bailey gets the zoomies everyday still. She will do big circles in the backyard and goes for up to 10 minutes at a time. We alwyas say she entered her "holding pattern". In the house she can get going so wild that she runs into the walls. Just about knocked her self silly the other night.

I have a border collie cross and she does the same "perimeter check" in the back yard, it's funny and I don't think anything to worry about, just a quirk.

Oh yes....the puppy zoomies. When I let Lyric out of his crate in the a.m. he tears down the hall which is vinyl flooring and his legs go every which way. Then he turns in the hall, which he can barely fit when he's turning and comes back to make sure I'm coming. (which he knows I am) Then thundering hooves once again, slipping and sliding. Yesterday he fell right down on his side. Then out the door and zoomie on out to pee.

He does the perimeter check too, trotting with this funny little hesitation between his steps, just barely perceptible....looks like an Arabian horse's trot, head held high and extending those legs. I say the word, "patrol" And then when he's doing it, "good patrol." I'm going to teach him that trick just like the Dobermans on Magnum PI. Did you see Higgins saying that....? "Patrol Lads!" LOL.
