Davey's Here - He came earlier than Sunday

Hey All! Well Davey didn't want to come on Sunday! he decided to come early! On Friday night I finally decided to call since my undies had been damp and I'd had to keep changing them since mid-Thursday. I didn't know if I was leaking fluid, so we went in and the nurse tested to see if itwas fluid, the testing strip didn't test + for being fluid, but they did another test with a swab and put it on a slide then the Dr had to go and look at it under a microscope.

I figured it was probably nothing and was expecting the Dr. to walk in and tell us to go home and come back Sunday. But he came in and said "well, your water is leaking, so you're having a baby tonight or tomorrow morning". me ~> Shocked

We got moved to a delivery room where they hooked me up to an IV and started pitocin, fluids and antibiotics. They just kept checking my BP and stuff. I tried to sleep, but as the contractions got stronger I couldn't sleep through them at all.

Then the Dr. came in and broke my water fully to get my contractions going stronger at 5:45 - THAT HURT! I cried and poor Dave just stood there watching helpelss. Rubbing my head and hand.

Finally at 6 am I asked for the epidural. The Dr. came in at 7 and put it in. By that point I was shaking (nurses said it was normal) and the contractions were BAD. I didn't hold still enough for the first one, so he stuck me again (didn't hurt AT ALL) and within 10 minutes I was loving the epi!

I slept unitl about 10:30 am, then the nurse came in and put me on oxygen since the babyb's HB was dropping slightly with the contractions. Dave was still asleep at this point, i didn't feel like waking him up since he'd need to be energized for later on.

At 11:00 she came back in and couldn't find his HB, she called the Dr in STAT - which is what Dave woke up to hearing, along with seeing me on oxygen and almost had a heart attack. The Dr came and checked and said he was fine, but I was fully dilated and effaced, he hd dropped all the way and we were ready to push.

So the nurse came in (BTW I LOVED my nurses) and we started pushing around 11:10 while she did pereneal stretching. They were surprised at how well I pushed since I couldn't feel AND it was my first baby.

Finally the Dr came in and said he was almost there. Since I'd been pushing over an hour she offered to use the vacuum and speed things up a bit. I agreed. Well within 2 more pushes with help from the vacuum Davey came out!

He was born at 12:24 pm (so we pushed for about 1 hour and a half) and weighed 6 pounds, 9 oz.

He was 21 and 1/4 inches long and PERFECT (of course we are biased). Razz

They put him on me and cleaned him, I cried, Dave was next to me the whole time. We were immediately in love!

He scored an 8 on his APGAR test after 1 minute and a 9 after 5 minutes.

The nurses took him and cleaned him up more, did all his vitals and checked him over. then they gave him to us and left us to be with him. Dave held him while I ate lunch, I was starving at this point. And I was immediately ready to get up and shower. They made me stay in bed until they were sure I could walk fine. (I could!)

Finally I got up and showered (around 2:00) and people from my work showed up with gifts...

Anyway, I am in the process of getting pictures up. We took a ton. We had to stay until this morning. We got home around 9:45 this morning. So watch for pics pretty soon!
