Bought A Bread Maker
I bought a breadmaker from goodwill today. It seems in good condition but the manual is gone. I just ordered it online and I've been looking up some recipe's. I can't find bananna bread though or how long and what to do. I know all that stuff is in the manual but I am terrible at waiting. Can anyone give some pointers on how to use it and some good recipie's?

Ehm, you can't make banana bread in a bread maker... That's a loaf bread. Try googling "bread machine recipes", and look on book sites, too (amazon.com and Barnes & Noble should have some books just for that). We have a book that probably came with our machine, but I can't find it to give you the title!
Oh, and be prepared for waiting, too. We rarely use our's anymore, but I remember it taking about half the day for us to have it with dinner... |

Thanks. After getting the box mix and getting all excited I relaized that the little thing that turns the rotor is broke. So I will have to find a replacement. I did make bread in the oven last night and hubby said it is really good. I put Jalapinio's(sp?) in it so I wont eat it. But he loves hot stuff.

I don't use my bread maker often. But its sometimes nice to have a hearty bread when you're making soup or something. I've also found that homemade bread make stuffing taste 1 Million times better
if you're willing to put in the effort. mmmm....i'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I found the best advice for the bread maker came in the manual. But googling receipes is a really good idea. I actually might try it myself. hmmmm... |

Add oil, eggs, sour cream or yogurt, and vanilla. Insert the machine pan securely into unit; close lid. Select CAKE setting; press "Start." When beep sounds after about 5 minutes, add mashed banana and chopped pecans. Press "Start" again. (follow your machine's instructions for cakes) Carefully remove pan from unit. Turn bread out onto cooling rack. Cool thoroughly. Slice thinly to serve. Makes 1 5x4-inch loaf. Banana-Chocolate Chip Bread: Prepare bread as above through "Cake" setting. When beep sounds, add mashed banana and 1/3 cup chopped chocolate chips. Omit nuts. Continue as directed. ( My kids loved this when they were little ) |

You don't have to roll out the banana nut, just mix and pour into loaf pans.
I'm not nuts over kneeding, let rise & kneeding again. That was my grandmothers job. I use my bread maker probably way too much. Both me and my husband have gained some weight since we bought it 6 months ago. I bought a really nice bread maker recipe book because the one that came with it had only a very few recipes. |

I make a killer apple cinnamon nut bread. I also have some yummy recipes for strawberry/sourcream bread.. blueberry/sourcream bread, rhubarb bread etc. I love those quick breads, but I am also very fond of my yeast breads. I love to bake up a bunch of loaves of honey wheat bread. So yummy, makes the house smell so good. And they make excellent gifts for friends/coworkers during the holidays. Last year I entered several of my breads in the county fair and kicked some serious booty. LOL
Calgal.. yah.. it's a grandmother thing. But sometimes I think those things.. like the breads.. are depressingly becoming something that few bother with anymore. Kinda sad that many of us just flat don't have the time anymore. It's such a hurry hurry world these days. Some of the wonderful yet simple things are becoming forgotten. It's a bummer. I really saw that this year at the fair. I didn't enter, but took a look.. so few entries in the canning/breads, needlework, quilting etc. For me, it's depressing. |

Although I've only done it a few times because it is so time-consuming, I love making my own bread. I always made a cinnamon roll loaf, and it seemed to disappear in a matter of hours. Oh well, at least the little bit that I did get was good.
![]() Now instead of bread I usually make strawberry shortcakes, which usually take me longer, but they taste soooo good! |

For over 40 years I cooked big meals every day from scratch and made all my own bread, pies, cakes, cookies, candies and I always had large gardens and would make jelly, pickles, pickled eggs and beets and canned lots of fruit and veggies. I also froze quite a bit. I raised 6 sons this way and tought them to cook too. It all went to the way-side. My boys have such hectic lives and eat out almost exclusively. Now it's just me and my husband at home and I'm still trying to cook for two instead of 8, but haven't mastered it yet. We have been eating out more, the boys don't come here too often so cooking is down to a bare minimum and I "bought" a bread-maker.
Yes, it's a shame the old fashion way of cooking is almost forgotten, because it's a million times more tasty. |

lol. I wanna be your daughter! My mom never thought me how to cook so I am louzy at it. I don't think her family taught her either. When she was a child it was her duty to train horses so she was never indoors much. Now I try to cook but I really have no clue. I just learned a few months ago how to make dough! lol. Wooooo ho.

I love baking, be it with breadmakers or without. There's just something about fresh baked goods right out of the oven - gingerbread, stickybuns, biscuits...mmm I could go on. My current favorite and specialty is chocolate chip orange sticky buns - heaven. I just wish I had easier access to an oven.
