Arrow Dumbest thing I've heard Part 2

"Anyone remember me getting a puppy? Well I took him back because he was a pest. "

If anyone can't guess this ISN"T me. This is a statement made on another board. Dogs need training. It doesn't seem this previous owner needs a dog if she thinks they are pests.

That's awful!

A friend of a friend adopted a 5-y.o. Dachshund and then got tired of him almost immediately! They spoke casually of regretting their decision and wanting to get rid of the dog. Fortunately, my friend intervened and helped them find a dachshund-loving home for the poor little guy.

My fiance is part of a automotive forum but they just recently talked about dogs. Neither of us could believe how many people were like "oh this was my dog, we got rid of him" or "i decided to move so I got rid of him"

but then of course there were the 'oh were geting a female so we can breed them!"

There was one guy who had a dog who was I think a bomb sniffing dog...

Oh my gods, that's horrible!!!!!!!! I really think people have this fantasy in their heads of a dog that just sits like a lovely ornament on the rug, when it's not fetching their slippers and newspaper for them.

people really can be so uneducated. I had Jasmine in Petssmart today and this guy started telling me that his husky just had pups because it is better to let them have a litter before fixing them.

My husband's nephew, his wife, son and mother-in-law were in town from Florida this week and came over for dinner lastnight. Now, I've never met the mother-in-law of our nephew's wife until just that night and this was about 10 minutes into us just chatting back and forth......

Mother-in-law: So, you show dogs huh?

Me: Yes, we've been showing for some time now.

Mother-in-law: Ahh, well I was just telling the kids here that since they got their new dog they could make some money. ( Nephew and his wife roll their eyes and attempt to divert old mom which she wants no part of. )

Me: Oh, hows that?

Mother-in-law: They got themselves a rare Boston Terrier and he isn't fixed.

Me: Oh really? What makes him so rare?

Mother-in-law: He's one of them there Brindle colored dogs, you don't see them often in those Bostons and the kids need to be studding him out to make some money!

Me: Well, I'm against breeding dogs that don't even meet the breed standard so maybe it would be a good idea to just drop this subject and talk about something else.

Mother-in-law: Umm, ok ( long pause of silence here as I continue to stare her down and the nephew and his wife sink lower into the sofa ) well, how about that grandbaby of mine whatcha think?

Whoa Sonja! Remind me to never tick you off!

I think some folks just see pets as possessions, objects, or status symbols instead of living beings.

I remember the young couple across the street from me, talking about it was always their dream to have two purebred GSDs. I could actually see the delusion of these two beautiful "ego extentions" lounging peacefully on their front lawn for all to admire, in this guy's eyes. I just knew this wasn't going to be good.

These two dogs grew up completely unsupervised and unsocialised. They soon started attacking the neighbors together. In the end, the dogs were given away. Sad, sad, sad!

lol I'm usually not that blunt but, when this woman came in without even saying hello, pushed her way past me at the front door and just plopped her butt down on the couch.... followed by the way she said that I just could help myself.

I've seen this dog, he is totally brindle and I don't mean light either, wry and pigeon toed.

Actually we never got the chance to talk about it after. From their reactions it didn't appear that they thought it was a good idea but I plan on calling them as soon as they get back home.

I am in an university companion animal course, and one girl said we should educate college sudents about getting a dog because their future is so uncertain. I almost flipped at this. Just because your future is uncertain (like most expecting parents) does not mean you can't make sacrafices down the line.

Actually, Im going to have to agree with the girl. Way too many college students get pets, then they graduate and their pets cant come with them and they just get left behind at shelters or on the street corner. Education is DEFINITLY required in this dept and I feel really strongly about that.

I agree with the girl, but I don't think you're one of the people she would have to educate.

Although I have known people who loved their college pets for life, of course.

In my experience, the problem was more with cats.
