Missie was actually named by my dad. I think we were on our way to pick her up, and everyone was throwing out names. Dad only knows conventional (or stupid. Hahaha!) names for animals, so he was throwing out all the cutesey ones. I grabbed onto that one because Missie (spelt that way, despite dad's protests "Missy" could not be spelt that way. lol) was a character in my favorite series of books (Love Comes Softly), I'd just finished or been reading at the time. I added "Mae" (spelt funny to match her first name) when we registered her with the AKC. And also to make her name more unique. I think we discovered she had a Missy in her lineage when we registered her.

Other pets... "Figaro" (people tell me I spell that funny, too) was MY first kitty. I named her after Pinnochio's cat, if I remember correctly. I was about 5 when she was born, and a family friend read me Pinnochio. I saw that his cat looked like my kitten at home, so I informed my mom when I got home that was to be her name. Fig's mom's name was Beandip, 'cause that's the first thing we fed her out of, a beandip can (her mom was our first cat ever). Fig's sleeping behind me, hogging the chair, right now.

Stu (a female cat) is short for Stubby. She was born without much of a tail.

Dakona was named after a band. He gets called everything but Dakona, and who knows where most of his nicknames came from. I randomly started calling him Binks...

Paris the betta fish had a Paris-themed tank, because my sister really wants to go there someday. So one day I surprised her and themed his tank that way.

Demetri the hamster was named after the little boy Anne and Gilbert adopt in the last Anne of Green Gables movie. We were looking for a unique "D" name, and I thought of that.

Darren the rat came with that name from the shelter. I kept it because "Darin" means "precious gift", and he was mine.

Now that you're all asleep... lol

I *love* the name Gizmo - never change it!
How my pets got their names:

Sally; cat (passed away) - came already named.

Tomfoolery; cat - honestly, why on earth *not*? I liked the idea of having the name "Tom" in there, but adding a bit of creativity and silliness.

Tai; Shiba Inu - my family and I were eating dinner at a sushi restaurant the night after we first visited the litter and chose our puppy. One of the items on the menu was Tai which translates to "red snapper." Anyone that knows Shiba puppies knows why this fits.

Kimi; Shiba Inu - Kimi was nameless for three days. She want by a dozen nicknames, but none seemed to stick: Plum, Ko Ume (which is Japanese for "small plum"), and finally after going through a book of Japanese names, I threw out the name Kimi which means "noble" or "unequaled." It stuck.

Well..lets see.
I picked the name "Kobe" because my family is a Lakers fan and my uncle has a pitbull named "Shaq" so we thought it'd be a good idea to name our new puppy Kobe to go along with Shaq. Even though they don't see each other.

And the chihuahua, Scarface, got his name because of his half ear that was bit off by his mother. So, pretty self explanitory. But, we just call him Scar for short.

Geo, our beagle-we are involved in a sport called geocaching. (www.geocaching.com) It's kinda a world wide treasure hunt, involves hiking, seeking hidden containers full of trinkets, etc. using a GPSr. When we got her, we knew she would be going geocaching with us, so it was only appropriate to name her "Geo the caching beagle." We were right, she loves to go.

Two days ago, we got a 6 week old kitten, and thought it only right to name him "Cache" even if he wont be going with us.

Well let me think here. Personally I love the name Gizmo. Its cute and it fits him.

But Our dogs names. Clint had Walter before he met me and Since a Welsh Corgi is "english" He gave him an english name.

So when we decided to get Lizzie I decided we needed to stick with an English name and Named her Elizabeth, (she is the queen dog around here).

And Frank came with his name. So we left it. We tried to pick out some other name but none suited and we kept Frank.

And we also have 2 cats. the older one I originally named Buttons because of her nose but then I always called her "BabyGirl" and Thats her name now. And then we have Bam. We just kept his name because that is wat he came with.

Scotty became Scotty for a couple of different reasons.
We travelled 90 miles home with a beautiful 16 lb 8 week old collie pup, who was so cute and somewhat clumsy while he tried to tumble up a curb. When he got home that evening he had to poop 5 times. We had Scott towels in the house that we cleaned up with and besides I am a STAR TREK fan in a major way and Scotty is the engineer. That was back in North Dakota, at the end of October, in 1989. Scotty was an exceptional dog.

Sam was named after our State Farm adjuster who helped us so much last year after we were hit by a tornado.
AngelScout is a combination of what an Angel we thought Sam our adjuster was, and Scotty. One day we will use them to Scout for lost Angels. SAR

Theo- my sister named him after my mom's dog that my mom always told her stories of...

Wesley- my dad named him after "John Wesley" the founder of the United Methodist Church(my dad is a UMC pastor) John Wesley was saved from a fire and so was my Wesley, so it fits...

As soon as I saw his picture on one of your posts I knew why you named him Gizmo. He does look like a gremlin. Don't change it, I love it.

Meghan and Connor are names that we liked for human children and then we got smart and decided that neither of us were remotely family oriented.... (thank goodness)

Kaelyn is an English Golden Retriever her name means meadow in old english.... it is actually pronounced Kaelan.

Cuinn - another gaelic/old english name... pronounced Quinn.....

we had also decided on a English/Gaelic theme for the kennel as the dogs we have are of Scottish origin...... Then we realized that too many folks were headed in the same direction as we were with their dogs names. So we switched gears......

Shalva - a puppy kept from our breeding her name means peace in Hebrew..... I love her name and will probably continue to use hebrew names for the time being..... it is pretty, different and
it passes the yell from the back porch test. Pronounced Sha-L-VA

Schroeder.. well..

1. I am a "Peanuts" fan (hmm.. obvious?)
2. Wanted a 'strong' name because of the 'strong-headedness' of the breed.
3. Schroeder.. Schnauzer.. you see the link
4. My sister was skating to the Peanuts theme song and at one point would 'mimic' Schroeder playing on the piano, so it seemed fitting
5. Schroeder mysteriously turned out to be the colours of a piano.. even though he was suppose to be a salt and pepper
6. Didn't know it at the time, but the name of the German president

Curious thing is, he 'grew' into his name. We picked his name prior to getting him, and it is unbelievable how many people say how much his character fits his name.

Kino-
We brought him home with no name, My MIL, my faince and I were sitting around trying to think of a name while he sniffed around. After a while my MIL said Eskimo (since hes all white). My fiance and I thought it was a little too wierd, but he said Kimo. Well I liked the sound of it but didnt like that it sounded like cancer treatment. So I changed the M to an N and you have Kino.
I have since leared its a Character from the book The Pearl, as well as a city in Mexico and a card game.

Bud- Came with the name. But the story behind it is cute. His mothers name is Rose, so hes her little Rose Bud.

Seeing as I have KBD's I named them accordingly.

Loki's Maske (Maske is the native american word for bear in the Massachusett tribe) although my son like the movie with Loki and Barnabus.

Yona is the Cherokee word for bear.

I like Gizmo too, we thought about Mugwhy (sp?) as well.

My husband came up with Winston's name before we even knew we were definitely getting him. Unbeknownst to me, he'd been researching the breed, and when he saw the puppy photo from the breeder, he said, "If we got a boy, we could name him Winston." His reasoning -- the coloring on the puppies was Blenheim, and Winston Churchill was born in Blenheim Palace. You could have knocked me over with a feather.

I get grief for naming my darling little female dachshund "Bailey". Everyone tells me it's a boy name but I don't care. This time it's a girls name damnit!!!! LOL!! I had a vet ( dumped him a while ago) who was seeing Bailey for a urinary tract infection. He was examining her private area and at the same time kept saying things like " He looks like he has a slight infection, nothing to worry about...antibiotics should clear him up quick....." This is the same vet she had since she was a tiny baby. I mentioned to him that she was a girl and he blushed and said her name threw him off since it's a boy's name. Not only was it rude of him to say that but HELLO!!! he was looking at her privates and saying HE and HIM!!!! Very shortly after that I changed vets. LOL!! He still blushed when I went to his office to get a copy of her records. ROFLOL!!!

I picked the name Lucy because I think it sounds delicate and sweet. That is just what my Little Lucy-Loo-Poo is!

haha, yes. When Dazzle (race name WB's Dazzle Me) went to the vet to get neutered, they said "man, you could have at least given him a boy's name!"

Truth be told, I was thinking of changing his name at first. but the more time I spent with him, the more i realized that he really does dazzle me. There isn't a more fitting name for my boy!

Echo came to me with her name. it comes from her race name, Pep Echo.

Julio was one of my old Golden's nicknames. I named him so he could live out Hobby's legacy, i guess. He's done just that, and more!
