celebrity dogs...ughg

i am watching a dog on spoiled celebrity dogs on vh1. it's sickening. have any of you seen britney spears' chi? the thing looks sickly. it's like it was purposely bred to be very tiny. the thing is always shoved in her purse, and it always looks sick!! all these celebrities get tons and tons of money spent on them...but that's about it. all these celebrities want dogs to look cute, and ride in their gucci bags, but do you ever see britney or paris walking the dogs or playing with them in the park? i can't imagine that these celebrity dogs actually get a lot of attention. but they do get designer dog houses and designer grooming. i think any dog would prefer quality time rather than a diamond collar.
also, all they ever get are chis and lasa apsos. these breeds are great, but do you think celebrities get them because of the qualities of the breed? no, they get them so they can carry them around and look cute.
and i'm sure some celebrities do really take care of their dogs, and don't leave it to the housekeeper.
what do you all think about this?

I agree, they should get a stuffed animal dog and stick that in their purse!

I do have to say that Courtney Cox and David take good care of their two spaniels, you always see them walking the pooches with Coco their baby in a carrier. It's refreshing to see celebrites treating their dogs like dogs!

Same as Nicolette Sheridan and her Golden Retriever. They seem to have a great bond. Not all celebs fall in the designer breed/fashion breed "I need one now" criteria. Though the ones that do definitely don't give a great role model for others who fall in that market trap. Guess celeberties are like us "normal folks", some are quite level headed where others go cookoo for cocopufs.

It's a good thing that not all celebrities treat their dogs like fashion objects.

I haven't watched the show, but I've seen pictures of Britney's chihuahuas and whatever, the dog has this little throne like thing in it's room! Can we say "excessive"??? Also you never hear about her OTHER dog anymore, Lacey I think it's name is, I'm pretty sure it's a Maltese.

Just because Chihuahuas are so small and whatever doesn't mean that you can carry them around everywhere! They need excercise too, like all dogs. Ugh, makes me sick.

More celebs who's all about their dogs include Charlize Theron, Orlando Bloom and Kate Bosworth (they rescued 2 mutts while filming somewhere!) It's a nice change.

I agree, I've watched MTV cribs and seen celebs taking care of their dogs. But lots of celebs DO only want the tiny little dogs.

I agree, also. I don't think some of those celebs pay any attention to the dogs. By the way, you can get dog collars with rhinestones in them at PetCo!! Yesterday, we were privileged to adopt a rescue dog from the English Springer Spaniel Rescue Association. She is a little beauty - black and white - and crazy as it was, I saw the rhinestone collar at Petco and just HAD to get it! ( But, I got another one for everyday that was more practical!!) She prances around the house like a princess, and we're so thrilled. She has so much spunk for what she has been through! We just love her! Kudos to the rescue groups!

There are, unfortunately, a lot of celebs who think of fashion rather than the actual dog. The only thing that makes them worse than your 'average' person is that they're in the public eye and set the trends.

As has already been mentioned, there are a lot of celebs out there who really care about their dogs. Rose McGowen comes to mind. She started off as a 'I just want it cause it's cute' type celeb when she bought her first Boston Terrier from a petshop, but has found out about puppymills and byb and is horrified by all the Bostons in rescue and now supports Boston Terrier rescue and has even rescued and placed a Boston herself.

There are some good ones out there. I wish they got more press than the irresponsible ones though.

Cass.

I'd agree, there are tonnes of celebs out there who just use their dogs as fashion accesories. I've heard that Britney Spears actually got rid of one of her chis because it 'didn't like Kevin'. That's when you go to an animal behaviourist, she has the money, so there's really no excuse not to. I couldn't get rid of my Collie just because she didn't like a member of my family (unless it was some sort of hazard), I'd try to fix the problem before I would do something so drastic.

I always wonder about how much research these people do before buying a dog, and how much homework that they've done about the breed they want, since the small dogs seem to be the ones in demand. Surely if they've done some research, they'd know that even little dogs require excercise.

Oh, and to add to the list of celebs who actually take care of their pets:

~Drew Barrymore (her dog actually saved her from a fire in her home)
~Jennifer Garner
~Hillary Duff (as much as I dislike her art, I give her credit for always rescuing and taking care of her animals)
