Heads up! (especially ontarians)
The autumn wind is whispering through the changing leaves of the baring trees and that can only mean one thing...winter's coming!!!!! And what does that mean? why dogsledding of course!!!!! I know it's early but I just wanted to give you guys a heads up of two races that I'm going to be in this winter so you can all mark your calenders and come cheer me on LOL It's actually quite something to see!! Around 100 gorgeous Sibes all yipping with glee for the same thing - the chance to run 4 miles around a scenic course through a wildlife preservation! Meet the dogs, meet the mushers, and see first hand why I can't help but love this sport!! If you're not a huge fan of cold and winter that's alright, you can still come on down and enjoy the festivities from indoors.
Both races are located at Toronto's Kortright Centre (I highly recommend visiting their Peregrin Falcon Centre!) which I can provide directions to if needed. The first race is January 21&22 and the second is February 25&26. These are two-day races which means all qualifiers are required to race 4miles both days to make a total of 8miles. The two times are added together and the one with the shortest time wins! Dogs are welcome to come but they are not allowed inside the buildings. You must keep your dog away from the sled dogs unless the owner says it's ok because not all the sled dogs are well socialized and are dog-aggressive. Also it's the courteous thing to do. Dogs also must be kept back from the trails especially at the start so as not to distract the dogs in harness. Hope to see some of you at the races!!! If you do plan on coming please PM me so I can make sure to find you and depending on how many of you come out I may even be able to give you a short ride at the end of the races (on Sunday) depending on how the team feels. They're usually ready to go again but sometimes all the excitment wears them right out. Oh ya there's also food and beverages that can be bought in the buildings. |

Oh my gawsh!! My Aunt and Uncle have been planning on taking me to a dog sled race at the Kortright centre this January since last March. I hope it's the same one, I might just see you there. :P
I'm in Toronto, so the Kortright centre is close by. ![]() |

Don't be jealous TribalRats, all you have to do is drive up the Sequoia Mts. that's near you and your in lots of snow.
We dearly love going up there and camp. So peaceful and beautiful.I have to drive about 25 miles to see snow, but it's nice to get back home when we do. ![]() |

Leto, do you know his name? I know a few members of the Siberian husky Club of Canada (SHCC) so maybe I know him? I may have even competed against him already LOL
Tiffany, a member from another forum from Barrie may be coming down as well so that'd be pretty cool! Then you could meet another dog lover from your area too hehehe! Collie Lita, it's gotta be the same one cause Kortright only hosts 2 races/year That'd be awesome to see you out! I'll post another reminder when the dates come closer in case you guys have got any questions or need directions or summat. BTW if any of you have kids this is geared towards them too! They even have kidss activities in the basement of one of the buildings that are sleddog-related |
