Cropped Ears and infections

Sooo, Im kind of interested to see how strong the correlation is between cropped ears and ear infections. I know all dogs can get infections, but if you feel that your dog gets more than what would be usual, that would fall under "prone to being infected".

To keep the results valid, please only vote if you have a old breed of working dog whose ears are traditionally cropped.

Examples of Breeds that are fit the poll perfectly: Great Dane, Cane Corso, Central asian shepherd, schnauzers

Examples of Breeds that are up for debate (due to their relative newness to the doggy arena) Dobies, pitbulls, boxers

To start, I have a cane corso with natural ears and they are a menace to keep infection free! They are forever smelling yicky and have brown disgustingness in them!

Disclaimer: My view of working dog and akc's view of working dog are two different things, so dont take the term working dog per akc terms!

Well I know pit bulls aren't necessarily on your list but my girl has natural ears and has never suffered from an ear infection. All my family have dogs that have hanging ears and none of them ever have had infection of the ear either.

Katya my Caucasian has a shepherds crop, almost no ear left, no infections and it doesn't seem to bother her a bit that she has no ears left.

I believe it has to do more with how often you cleanse your dogs ears rather than what type of ear they have.

ear infections can be due to a lot of things that have nothing to do with whether the ear is cropped/prick/floppy. allergies are a big one.

I know, but the point of the poll is to see how strong the correlation is! Im a science fool, I need hardcore data with charts and graphs!

I think Pitbulls with uncropped ears are still more open to the air than some other floppy eared dogs. My Lab was constantly getting yeast infections. Infections involving yeast or fungus are more apt to grow in dark, moist, dirty areas. My cropped Dobe, so far has never had any of that. An infection caused by a wound can happen in either case, but again, good air circulation and light always aids in healing.
